Kaiser WILL NOT stop pulling and it is driving me CRAZY. I have tried the Gentle Leader and the Easy Walk Harness, both by Premier. Neither were good for me nor Kaiser. I was afraid he would hurt himself with the Gentle Leader and that Easy Walk Harness was just awkward. He moved like it was difficult.
I am now thinking of getting a prong collar. He is 23 weeks and 45lbs. I need to gain some control. Any advice? |

Of all the tools out there, I like prongs the best. However, like other tools, it is a TOOL.
The great thing about prongs is that the correction is always timed perfectly.
I don't like halters. See http://www.flyingdogpress.com/headhalters.html
Incidentally any of the articles on the above site are definitely worth reading. |

I think if used correctly it can be a great training tool.
My husband dislikes halters and will be using a prong collar to train Jaeger later on |

| By the way, there are lots of old topics on pulling on lead. A dog can be trained without tools... |

| I have used every tool to stop Scout from pulling and the prong collar works the best. One quick tug (easy) and he walks like an angel. |

| I'm glad someone asked. Obedience school wants Sky on something so she doesn't pull. I think she'll chew if she has the front harness thing so i'm going to try to prong collar, but they are going to cover the prongs w/ rubber tips. Good thing is at school if it doesn't work i can return it. |

Just wanted to add my two cents...
I was originally training my pup with a choke collar and I was getting the timing wrong so I switched to a prong collar and it worked wonders.
IMO, I prefer the prong collar pinching the skin together whereas the choke chain actually cuts off the dog's airway. |

Prong collars are like power steering for a dog..... |

| My view on this is, if it works use it. It is a training tool, once he learns, gradually discontinue the use. |

Wow the article at flyingdogpress was quite the eye opener, thanks Anne.
I will try the prong collar on Hunter as he has never been walked before. After 3 weeks he is still pulling bad.
I"ve taken out some links so it sits halfway up his neck.I believe the loops are to be placed on the right side of his neck.
I will have on the second collar hooked up just in case.
I hook on using the 2 loops on the prong collar and when he pulls at that moment I give a gentle tug?
Hope this is right.
Please feel free to add input.
Thanks Gail |

| OMG Sky had a prong collar on last nite in class. It worked fine but I couldn't get it off. My husband took it off and now I can't get it back together. If I can't figure it out, I'll just have her school put in back together on Monday. I didn't pay for it yet, anyway. |

That link is great! Very informative. Thanks, Gail! I just bought the collar yesterday, and was apparently quite clueless on how to use it correctly! Hopefully it's as nice outside tomorrow as it is today and NO kids are home sick so I can try it out. I'm so excited!!! |
