We did puppy pre-school with Jaeger ages ago but didn't continue on to obedience class as my husband wanted to train him at home. That was 5 months ago
I hope it's not too late to start formal obedience classes |

Linkin started his first obedience class at Petsmart on Saturday and he's 8 months old. Since we had already taught him the basic commands they had him start at intermediate. This is what the class focuses on:
* Brief review of basic cues
* Cues such as stay from a distance
* Learning despite distractions
* Relationship-forming games
* Additional cues (heel, stand and more)
Jaeger is still a puppy. It's not too late!
For anyone wondering if Petsmart has a decent obedience program - so far we like it. It's great for distraction training. You actually go out into the isles of the store to practice. My husband took him last week, but I will be taking him this week. I'll keep you posted. |

| There shouldn't be any age limit on the classes. Marley was the youngest in her obedience (she had graduated puppy kindergarten), but there were some dogs at least 3 years old. Go for it. |

Go for it....when we adopted Hunter he was almost 3 and came with no manners.
We started fresh with him like he was a pup...and he is doing great.... |

Its never too late...
I work with my dogs at least every other day for 10 minutes each dog. Especially with Gunther's issues, I will have to stick with it on a regular basis. |

| Ditto what everyone else said. I think most trainers get that sometimes people need to take time off from training classes. I think most would rather that people take time not taking a class working on being solid with what the dog knows rather than taking him on to the next level when they aren't solid on what they learned in the last class. But if he isn't great with what he learned before, review at home before signing up or take the beginner class. |
