Thanks again everyone. No Name is still with us, and still without a name. He seems to be doing very well.
We are currently working on a good name for him. |

Well, No Name has taken a bit of a turn for the worse.
He started hacking yesterday evening, and today it is much worse. He doesn't have a temp, but does have a tiny bit of a snotty nose. Stools are a bit loose, when they have been nice and firm. He also appears to have a mild ear infection in his left ear...
I don't suspect distemper at this point, but rather something more like kennel cough. The timing of this seems a bit strange, but regardless, he is going to the vet at 4PM. |

Well, we have ruled out kennel cough...
His temp has spiked up to 104.1 now. We had a blood test done, and were hoping to see an elevated white blood cell count that would point to a bacterial infection, but that was not the case. It was low, which typically indicates the issue is viral. The red blood cell count was low as well, which is also typical when there is a virus such as distemper affects the bone marrow.
Unfortunately, all signs point to distemper.
All we can do now is hope that he does not start to develop neurological symptoms, such as seizures. Should that happen, it was recommended not to have him suffer though that. |

I'm so sorry to hear that. I sure hope he can pull through this. He's got a lot of people thinking about him. If he has distemper, is there anything that can help? What is the recovery time frame like? |

In all reality, the only thing that can help him is him. You can only treat the symptoms and any secondary infections. He will either fight the virus off with his own immune system, or he won't make it. And even if he does survive, he may be left with various permanent problems as a result. There are few things worse than distemper. I am sorry I have a difficult time typing about it for any period of time (I have become a lot more attached that expected), so here is a pretty good link with a lot of information about it for those of you that are interested.
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_canine_distemper.html
And I want to add this for everyone reading... I know there has been a lot of information on our site about vaccinations, over vaccinating, and potential side effects of vaccinations.
Please, don't misunderstand and not get your dog vaccinated. Over vaccinating or having it done at the wrong time is one thing, but not vaccinating at all is quite another. |

I'm so sorry. I'll be thinking of him and hoping he pulls thru this. Stay strong little guy!
My thoughts are also with you and your family. I know how easy it is to get attached even in such a short amount of time. |
