Well, we did it today. We picked out a puppy. Visited last weekend - decide we wanted one this weekend.
We dont get her for about another week or so (had an inside track on picking her out as a friend has a dog from the same breeder - a good, healthy, strong, happy blue weim). Breeder has just started putting the word out on them, so we got pick of females.
Mom and Dad were both on site. Both very sweet. Dad (shiloh) reminded us a lot of Lola - just the sweetest thing. Mom is adorable as well - a very good mother.
We are not at all ready for a puppy, but Zoe is getting more lonely by the day, and if she isnt happy, our recovery isnt even an option... we hope this begins to bring us all around a bit... I know it will. We are certainly excited... just a reserved excitement.
Here is what I will share for now...
Mom is blue, dad is silver.
Working on a name for her now.
She is 2 tone silver and tan... the markings of the hound I believe it is called.
I have photos, but I want to keep the suspense up for a bit. Once we have her I will post photos of the litter, M&D, and updated photos of her.
Bittersweet right now... I feel a bit guilty being excited about her - but I know Lola wants us all happy, and this should really help Zoe out... she just needs a buddy so badly - she cant handle us at work all week - waiting much longer will just make her even more miserable. This is one of those things that requires intenstinal fortitude I guess... builds character. Regardless of the circumstances - we are already in love with her and cant wait to welcome her into our family!

wildlifecr13... I know exactly what you mean about feeling reserved excitement. When we lost our Rott Baron of 9 years in September I was devastated. We would come home to an empty house and I would just cry. The first week was especially tough.
We knew that we would get another dog and living in MN we decided that we prefered to potty train before winter. So we ended up getting Linkin a week after Baron passed away. It was way too soon as we were both so tore up about Baron and not really ready for a new puppy. We didn't even have Baron's ashes back yet, but the right circumstances presented themselves for the new pup so we went for it.
I was excited about the new puppy, but at the same time all I could think about was that this dog was living in BARON's house and playing in BARON's yard, etc... To be honest, it took a couple of weeks for me to accept that this was Linkin's house now and to not feel guilty for loving him.
I'm sure you will probably have some of the same feelings... You will no doubt fall in love with the new puppy (how could you not... they're so adorable!), but there will be moments that you are torn with your emotions... knowing that you're doing what's best for Zoe should help though.
Just wanted you to know that I feel your pain, and CONGRATS on the new puppy! I can't wait to see the pics!!! |

I'm so happy for all of you! You've been through so much in the last few months you should NOT beat yourself up. I know it's easy for me to say not to feel guilty, but don't! Wanting another so quickly just amplifies how much you loved Lola, and love Zoe.
Take this time to really enjoy your housebroken, doesn't chew on things she's not supposed to, used to your daily routine dog!!! And can't wait to see LOTS of pictures (the suspense is KILLING ME!!!)! |

I am not sure exactly what to say, but I am happy for you and Zoe , and wish you all the best of luck!
Having a baby dog is quite fresh in my memory, which is where the luck part comes in |

I'm with Luna, I don't know what to say. Congrats on the pup. AND GOOD LUCK!! Pupdom is the easy part, it's adolescence that sucks! Honeymoon over type of thing. But you're at an advantage, with everything you've gone through, I bet your patience will be great and your appreciation will be heightened. I can not wait to see her!
I think my pup has the mark of the hound, she is tan and silver, more tan as she grows. Her mom was blue and dad was silver too, that's awesome.... |

Lola
You got the pup with the dobe/hound markings!!! How cool. I can't wait to see her pictures.
Don't be too hard on yourselves...Lola wants what's best for Zoe. Give Zoe a kiss on the nose for me.
Crazy, puppy time ahead......

I am so excited to see pics of the new pup with the hound markings! My boy is a rescue and has the hound markings, I never got to see him as a baby.
Please post pics soon!
I am attempting to post some of the ball obsessed boy that I have to put up with....showing his "crazy face" (he is a tennis ball junkie).

Holy cow, I didnt know that was hound markings, Daisy doesn't have those, she's just more tan than silver.

you people are tempting. staring at a picture of her now. sweet little thing.
i think we have a name... i just didnt want to introduce her to the group until she had a name set.
those are her markings.... there is a blue male with the hound markings as well. he is an ornary little guy.
they are the only two with any markings. 2 blue males, the rest of the 11 pups are silver, 5 girls and 6 boys. |
