Ok, so we have been seeing more and more fleas on Zellie lately so we decided to do a good (late) spring cleaning. Now that we have, we were looking into some economic flea capturing devices such as the light bulb or the electronic.
I know I saw a little “house” that you plugged into the wall had a 4watt light bulb and inside the “house” was super tacky paper. Flea would come into the house and land onto the paper. Ta-da all captured. I just can’t find it. I’ve also see the tacky pad that is made of plastic, around $20. It looks pretty good as well but has an exposed tacky pad.

Anybody use them? If so, which and was it worth it?

hmmmm, I've never heard of that stuff for fleas (for mice, yes, but not fleas). Our last problem with fleas was about 3 years ago, maybe 4 - there was a stray cat wandering outside and must've infested something in our yard. We found them on Glacier.....have you SEEN Glacier Shocked Shocked Shocked . Fleas were not pretty on her and I was sickened to see them (oh, it was BAAADDDDD). Since I wanted the fleas gone, I would've lit a match to my house if that was the only option. Luckily, we found a powder to sprinkle on the carpeted areas of the house (unfortunately, this was before we tore up all the wall to wall), let it set for MANY hours (we left for the weekend) then came home and vacuumed it all up. And of course, G got a major dip in the meantime. No more fleas! It was just something we found at the grocery store and probably contained arsenic, asbestos and lead Rolling Eyes , but it worked!

Good luck wit dem fleas Why me? !!!

I figured after the story in the other topic, i had to get ya back! lol.

Jill is the obsessive type that would have done the wall to wall, personally I think that fleas are jsut something that you will have to live with. you won't see alot of them but you may find one or two here or there.

I did finally find the "house" thingy. lol

I think that we might buy 1 then maybe if it does that well.

i heard somewhere that if you put a flea collar in your vacuum bag it helps..
this way when you suck up the boogers, they die.. and don't multiply inside the bag..

The bog exposed sticky pads...I have seen them for mice and roaches, not fleas...BUT watch out...a paw gets in it and you'll have some fun for sure...been there in the past with a cat!

Also the cedar thing i am doing is also for fleas too.....our neighbor has 3 dogs and she lives REAL gross and they have fleas so against her fence and the side of the House I lay it on real strong, Wrench doesn't have access over there either, then around the rest of the yard and outside of the house too...I don't use it inside as it is not good for respiratory reasons but outside is fine unless your dog is an outside dog and then just be More careful. There is also a cedar spray stuff too my neighbor uses. It takes care of mosquito's too.

Wrench was on Advantage multi which is topical but we are doing the sentinel one next and for then on unless we come across trouble of course.

Also pillows, dog beds, etc keep cleaned often and yes, the vacuum cleaner..someone said the flea collar, sounds good, another thing is to empty it each time you use it , if you have a bagless vac then this is easy to do and eco friendly.

Not so eco friendly is bombing the House...but you can also google Green flea control, etc.

No bag-less sweeper so we wouldn't be emptying it every time ,however we did use the flea collar idea. seemed to work, I dunno. Hopefully for one of the wedding presents somebody will get us that Dyson Animal we registered for. lol.

don't have a fenced in yard so not much boundaries however I did spray the ground with flea stuff and also the neighbors Smile i know it was wrong of me but they don't take care of it anyway. Zellie tends to pass through their yard once in a great while.

Thats what I thought about the sticky pad as well, Zellie would sniff or paw it. We went for the Victor Ultimate Flea Trap, as it has a cover.

We'll see how well it works on Monday night. At least that is when it is supposed to be received.

Apparently, normal ordinary table salt kills them. Sprinkle on bedding or wherever they are, leave for a day or two and hoover up.

Adding garlic to food helps deter them, other natural deterrents too.

Just curious, are you guys against putting the flea medicine on the dogs? That is what we do just get the Frontline and put in between the shoulder blades and within a week or so no more fleas.

my vet suggested garlic and yeast tablets years ago, and i've been using them ever since. the only time i've ever had fleas or ticks was last spring when i forgot to restart tesla on them. started the pills again and i still have not had a single one. i have lots of trees in the back of my property, and my neighbors always seem to have flea problems, but not me. i use a yeast and garlic powder supplement that i mix in his lunch and use a shampoo that has eucalyptus and tea tree oils, as well as lavender and other natural goodies..
i'm a little concerned about applying a medicine that doesn't allow me to touch my dog.. if fleas and ticks were a big issue around here, i'm sure i'd have to reconsider my choice.. but in the meantime.. he's doing well with the more holistic/natural approach..

Was looking on the ASPCA website and apparently garlic in large quantities isn't good for dogs. Just thought I'd pass the info along...

How much do you use?

I'm with you on the topical treatment.....I don't want that stuff on my furniture and worse yet, on my kids' hands.

i give it to them in tablet form - as per instructions, one small tablet per 10lbs body weight - i usually give them half that though since less works fine Smile been using the stuff for 15+ yrs with no adverse effects in any dogs, and my vet approves.
