Spent alot of this holiday time cleaning my wheat colored carpets with the Bissell. (When we were picking out the carpet, my husband rejected a color he called "puppy sh_t." I'm regretting I didn't fight that one harder now...)

What type of flooring would you put in your house if you had the $$$? We have wood in the other half of the house and it's looking pretty hacked up, but it is easy to clean. We have to do the basement soon.

Since you live where it's cold I would install wood flooring. (We have carpet, tile, and wood flooring)
The benefit with wood, it stays warm whereas the tile is ice-cold beneath your feet. My parents used some kind of finishing on their wood floor and it remained shinny for years. If you're interested, I'll pm you the info.
With tile, the grout will collect dirt. (Unless you use a sealant)

We have laminate flooring down in our entire house (Pergo is a popular brand but we have Mohawk) and it's really easy to clean and looks nice. But it will scratch if you move heavy furniture across it (even though they say it won't). The dogs nails click clack on it all day and that can be annoying especially when they're playing hard. You also can't let liquid sit on it or it will bubble. We've been really good about that except once. We left a window open and it rained while we were gone and it bubbled up some (not terribly noticable) but we have a toy chest sitting over that spot now. Despite all of the cons I really like it, it was inexpensive and it's so easy to clean. I've had several people comment on my hardwood floor, even a home appraiser Rolling Eyes I guess some people haven't seen alot of it.

Laminate - slippery when wet, but easy to clean - its everywhere around here.

Lynolium - cheap, easy to clean.

Tile - dark grout solves the dirt problem, and radiant heating, while expensive to install, theoretically lowers your heating bill and makes the tile warm to be on.

Carpet - we have a frizzay (cant spell it) that we put in the basement - dirt color - so far, so good as far as carpet goes.

Seriously though, I have been thinking of ripping out the carpet and leaving the hardwood floor with area rugs. At least you can pick those up and clean all the way through. That also lessens the click clack of the nails.

I really like carpeting though. So we may just be replacing the carpet every five or six years.

I love the hardwood too. About half the house is hardwood, but these two nutcases chasing each other around has taken its toll. They look like those cartoons of the roadrunner & coyote with their legs spinning around & slipping when the doorbell rings and they are on the hardwood. Laughing

The carpet gets cleaned & looks gross right away from the inevitable accidents and also the drool from chewing, gatoring with a wet coat, hair etc. Maybe hardwood with diamond coating and heavily patterned area rugs. Or dogs with drool bibs wound in plastic wrap. Laughing

our fir floors have a track worn in them... i am looking at pre-finished hardwood floors (with a warranty). when ziggy got old, we put runner rugs everywhere to make it easier for her to walk.

marmoleum might work, but i am not sure about the seam in the marmoleum click.

We have Berber carpet. I love it. It's VERY easy to clean, comes in every color imaginable and doesn't trap a lot of dog hair. I would love to have tile, but grout is my worst enemy Rolling Eyes

We put a really high quality laminate that is 14 mm thick. It is a "floating floor" so no bubbling when spillage or peeling. We got one with a texture to is so there is less slippage. It looks just like hardwood but will not scratch. We have found dried pee spots that Ollie left behind that I just wipe out with vinegar and water and we are good to go. No smells and the pee doesnt go through the cracks. We built our home 8 years ago with all carpet and ceramic tile. Three years ago we ripped out every piece of carpet and tile (except in the bathrooms) and replaced it with a cherry wood toned laminate and havent looked back since. We have raised a doberman and now a Weim plus two teenagers on this stuff and have not one complaint. I LOVE IT. We are finishing our lower level off and we are using the same throughout. I wouldnt have it any other way.

What brand is this? I haven't had bubbling with pee accidents but when a heavy rain sat on it it bubbled. It is also scratched in some places from moving heavy furniture but not from the dogs nails. I do LOVE it regardless but if and when we sell our home we'll be putting it in again so I'd love to know of a better brand that doesn't bubble or scratch as easily.
