Ange,
I've been thinking about Ruby all morning. I think all of this may be related to the HOD. I went back through the posts and she was originally prescribed rimadyl for pain. Rimadyl can have some serious side effects related to kidneys and it can be very hard on their stomachs. I would not give it to her. If she needs pain meds tell your vet to prescribe derramaxx or tramadol.
I think the drooling/not eating/fever is probably related to the HOD and she needs fluids and pain management. Did the same vet diagnose the HOD?? Cause if it was, I would change vets as that should have been the first thing that came to mind.
I am not a vet but I am all to familiar with HOD. If you want to talk, pm me your phone number.

thanks for the posts guys! We hope this gets better too
lynne, I did think about her having an episode of HOD. She has no pain in her legs at the moment though - do they always have to have pain in legs with HOD? She seems to have picked up a bit tonight. I read up on Rimadyl and I didn't like it so I have not given her any of that (after discussing with vet). She had three tabets I think in all of it. I initially did worry about that.
The drooling has stopped considerably - still moist though. She's drinking heaps just no food still at this time. I'm thinking she's going to be starving by morning!
Anyway I'm a bit happier with her tonight.. She definately picked up.
Such a worry!! |

We didn't think Scout's legs were hurting him either. If she does not want to stand, it is the HOD. If she is wobbly, lethargic, feverish etc. it's most likely related to the HOD. Dr Jean Dodds has done tons of research on health problems in weim. She just recently gave a seminar in Australia..I'm not sure where though. Google her, I'm sure you will get contact information for her.
If you need some friendly advice closer to home, I know some very experienced weim people from another forum that are in Australia that I could put you in touch with.
I am glad she seems to be feeling better. Give her a hug and kiss for me.

I just read this thread. I'm so sorry that Ruby is even more sick! I hope that answers are right around the corner for you. I would say look up the Dr that Lynn recommended. Also, have you called the Specialist directly just to check in and see what he thinks?
Lynn, you're too cool! I think you know everything! You're like Super Weim Mommy...and I wouldn't have it any other way. |

Does anyone have Dr House's number? maybe I'll call him and see if he has a diagnosis for my girl. |
Dr House would most likely diagnosis it as sarcoidosis! (We heard that so much on the show that we had to actually look it up! It is now a "house"-hold word around here every time someone gets sick!) Hope Ruby is OK.

I'm really worried about Ruby, she's back in hospital. Her fever is still running high. She's dribbling even more than before now. The vet was really concerned about her because she's lost almost 3kgs (6.6#) over the weekend and still running fever. They want to keep her in. I have to go to work soon and I'm so worried.
I just want my baby to be better. I was in tears at the vets office.
Your right Lynne, he thinks this is a flair up of HOD again but just wants to be sure (I had a vet intern the other day).
I was so angered by a man I met in the vets office - he was bringing a cat in. He saw Ruby's dribble and asked what was wrong with her, after I gave him the lowdown his reply to me was "I'd have her put down. Put her down and start again." I was so furious.
I had such a crap weekend. A stupid kangaroo jumped into my new car while I was driving and smashed all the side up. Allan had to get root canal and I'm just so scared and worried about Ruby. |

That was just a mean and horrid thing for that man to say to you! I don't know how in the world people can be so cruel. |

Oh! Ange... i feel so bad for you.
You must be out of your mind with worry... I can here it in your post.
I can't imagine hearing the comments you did from that man @ the vet, either!
Other than prayers and good thoughts, i wish there was something more I could do from NJ. Please know you and Ruby are on my mind alot and I will continue to pray for her (and for you, too!) |

| I'm so sorry about all that has happened. It just seems to be piling up on you! I'm praying for good outcomes on everything, but, especially for Ruby! And if anyone else says what that horrid man said you should say "why don't we put you down?!" I bet that'd make you feel better. |

That was a horrible thing to say...but don't worry about that now. I do believe she is having an HOD episode.
They need to control the pain..that is the root of the problem. Do NOT let them give her steriods without a long conversation about side effects. Scout was on Fentanyl and derramaxx and still had breakthrough pain. But he was able to cope. Pain management and good convalescent care is the all you can do. She will come through this. Scout did. You cannot treat HOD only the symptoms.
