We got Luke about 4 months ago as a rescue from our local shelter. I went with a friend to look for her a dog. It was love at first sight when i saw Luke. My husband tells me Luke and i were meant to be together. In three weeks we will be leaving for Colorado. My husbands parents take us every other winter to ski. Chris (my hubby) and i go on vacation every year. We have always left our doxies with my parents. Chris only had two stips as i was signing Luke's adoption papers. One he was my dog and i was to train him. Good thing since he won't listen to a word my husband says. Two when we went out of town Luke would have to be boarded. At the time it didn't seem that bad. I have been putting off making Luke a reservation because i didn't really want him to have to be boarded. I'm down to the wire though. My best friend gave me a number of a lady that keeps dogs in her home. She only keeps one dog other than her own at a time, i really like that. Her name is Kim i called her last night to see if she had our week open and she does. Luke and i have an appointment to go to her house tonight. Kim wants to make sure that Luke will do OK with her Lab and shitzu puppy. I think he will be OK as long as the puppy doesn't jump at him. I'm so tore up about leaving him though. I feel like bad like I'm playing favorites. Luke has become more attached to me in these few months than my doxies have their whole lives. Please tell me I'm not being a bad mom to my other dogs and that I'm not crazy. I think i would actually give up my trip to stay home with him. Anyways thanks for listening to my rambling. Think of us tonight i really want it to work out so he can stay with Kim and not in a kennel.

my weims stay with my parents... or a friend comes over with his dog to house/puppy sit.
the hardest time finding someone is in a week... my brother gets married, so everyone i usually trust with them will be there.
got lucky and found someone about a week ago.
doxies are insane... nothing bothers them... too mean.
baby your weim... your doxies will get over it.

I wouldn't feel as bad if my mom could watch him. She says she just can't handle all 4 of them . Plus she has two dogs and two cats. Sad I'm just worried he will go nuts. He doesn't even eat till i get home.

We got married in June went on a week-long honeymoon. I was sooo worried because we had never left the dogs before, even overnight. Koen has mild separation anxiety and also doesn't eat if we're not home with him (Delia NEVER passes up food, she's a piggy). Anyway, my best friend was supposed stay at my house to watch the dogs while we were gone but told me she couldn't like three weeks before the wedding. So, I totally freaked, but found the daughter of a girl at work who agreed to come stay at the house with them. They met her once for about a half hour three days before we left. I worried the whole time we were gone (even called from Mexico to check on them) and they were perfectly fine! Koen ate, which was what I was worried about, and they both seemed fine when we got home. So, this is a really long story, but I wanted you to know that I've been there and as long as your baby is comfortable with the dog sitter I would think he'd be OK.

HAHAHAHHA! Welcome to being a wiem owner. Now your hooked for life....I gave a job up most people would die for because it involved leaving my Misty home three out of seven days a week.

Go on vacation...enjoy....and when you come home.....Luke and you will only be closer....and so it goes thru there life and yours.

Oh and trust me....its hard looking at my front window only to see two of the saddest faces in the world looking at me every day I leave for work. They both lay the guilt on hard and heavy when I leave.

I know exactly how you feel. It's like leaving a child every morning when I go to work, even though he has a walker mid-day and sleeps the rest of the time.

I, too found a lady that keeps dogs in her house with her dogs, but last time she had like 15 and I think Beau was freaked out. I sure was. But he did fine.

Luke will be OK, but it's also perfectly normal to worry.

Try and enjoy your vacation.

Dana and Beau ( I pout when Mom leaves for work)

We don't go away anymore if we can't take them. When we got married, we only had Scout and my son still lived at home so he took care of him...I called several times a day...not to check on Ed, to check on Scout!!!
