Hunting 09 Photos

Postby WeiMe » Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:52 am

Last Monday, the day after a three day agility trial, I headed out for my first bird hunt of the year. Scout had so much fun! She had several finds and 2 great water retrieves. We hunted with her brother Oskar (who also had a great day) and a couple of Golden Retrievers who were mostly along for the fun. I was just thinking how cool it is to have a dog that competes in agility and then can switch gears and be a hunting dog the next day! It really makes me appreciate the people who are working so hard to improve the breed and make them a truly versatile dog!

I thought it was that time of the year to start seeing those hunting pics. Also niced to see how versatile your weim is :)

Great pics and your dogs are just lovely. I love to see them doing what they were bred to do. Weims are just the smartest dogs. Congrats on your hunt.

Great photos! I haven't gotten any great photos yet but I have a few pics from our South Dakota trip. I'm not actually in any of these because I'm always behind the camera.

Our quail opener was today. Not a bad start either. Got up a covey of about 30 birds 20 min into the hunt. We ended up with 11 finds over a 3 hour period. My daughter only got a few pics before the batteries ran dead. Duck opens next weekend. The dogs are going to be very tired the next couple of months.

Great photos! You sure know how to make this California city girl jealous.

I've never hunted before, but completely acknowledge that I'm the one missing out.

Recently, I met Anne ("anne") on this website. I had been curious about what these dogs can actually do, so Anne invited me out to a field trial in the desert. She said if I wanted to, I could bring my puppy, hang out, watch the trial, and then when the event was over, see if I could get Britta interested in any of the leftover birds.

Well, I came, I saw, and I was blown away. Met some wonderful people and some wonderful dogs.

After the field trial, I bought a leftover chukar for Britta. Anne pulled out the flying wings, and we let the bird go to see what Britta would do. Here is what she did:

I was absolutely impressed. So, I've now convinced some of my hunting friends to take me along with them on their upcoming excursions.

Anne, when do we get to hang out again?! :D

OK, sorry for hijacking thread. Just wanted to share my pre-hunting photos. :) Thanks for reading.

Great photos everyone! We won't have time to go out until later in the year. Still planning on Mearns opener and then going out again with the Snake Breaks crew in late December after Nationals for some hunting on the way back home. I'm not going to Nationals but will be meeting up with Steve for some good fun with all the dogs.

Kim - I was waiting for you to post photos! :-)
Britta was exceptionally birdy and I LOVED what I saw out of her for a pup that has never seen a bird before in her life!! Any time you want to come play birds, let me know! I'm so glad you guys had fun!

Great pics everyone! This is such a great thread and I can't wait to see all the pics that come out of this season.

Britta looks so proud of herself! Isn't it absolutely amazing to see these dogs do what they were meant to do? Way to go Anne on recruiting new people into the hunting and field trial world

H20fwlkller, which dogs were those in the pics?

That was Zeus (beeper collar) and Athena ( blaze vest). Zephyr ran a 3" locust thorn into his foot a couple days before, so he is sidelined for a while. He should be back in business in a week or so. Big dummy ( Zephyr) has come a long way this summer. I am looking forward to see how he performs off the training field.

The woodcock pic is mine from our hunting trip in MI. Apparently we just missed a big flight that came through the week after we left, but we did pretty well every day anyway.
