Ok, while Scooter and Sadie are kept in the small storage area during Scooter's heartworm rehabilitaion I have tried to make several toys for them to play with. First I hung different rope and ball toys from the rafters, those get tore down every few hours and I re-hang them. Now I have tried to make my own kong type toy. Primarily because I'd have to drive to the next closest town (about 40 miles) just to get one! Yeah, for living in Oklahoma Rolling Eyes . So here is what I did.

I picked up some of those skinny rawhide links and put about 4 of them in 2 liter soda bottles. I of course took all the paper off the bottle to avoid choke hazards. But what do you think? I just gave them two different bottles, I'll see if they can figure it out.

If you have any other ideas to keep these two busy in a small 6x8 ft area let me know. They are so used to having the back yard all day while I'm gone.

Hollow bones work really well to work as a kong and you can get them at a lot of grocery stores. Have you given them cardboard things-- like paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls? They only last two seconds but some dogs love to rip them up. If they like to destroy stuff and you don't care, you could put a couple cookies in a box with a whole bunch of paper so they have to dig to get it out? I've heard of people doing that with small animals.

Good ideas! Thanks. I'm up for anything. They actually haven't been bad the last two days, but if it were me I would want something to do. Very Happy

So far with the soda bottles, they have only got one treat out. I don't know if they really care about it. Rolling Eyes

My dogs don't need the rawhide to keep them interested in those plastic soda bottles. They LOVE them! You could probably put a ROCK in one and my dogs would go nuts! My dogs really like marrow bones. I get them at the grocery store. After they eat all the marrow out, I stuff treats in there. You could also smear a little peanut butter on the inside. They go nuts! Have you tried making yogurt or sugar free applesauce ice cubes? They make good treats and if you could stuff it inside something to make them work to get it out, that would probably keep them occupied. Also, my dogs like the tennis balls that have squeekers inside, but you'd have to travel to get those--or you can order them from dog.com!! Good luck!

One of our toys came by as quite an accident...

Hannah loves tennis balls. Loves to fetch them, loves to chew them, loves to sleep with them hanging out of her mouth. She loves them so much that she put a hole in it that slowly starting getting bigger and bigger. Now it is big enough to slide a cookie into! Wink

She will sit there for over an hour trying to get that cookie wiggled back out. I think she has figured it out though...she chomps on the ball until the cookie is broken up in pieces and is easier to shake.

I had already put the ball in the trash once, but she just sat there staring at the trash can until I gave it back. Another one of those things that is going to have to disappear during a nap!
