My sister said Beau was around 4-5 months old.

I went to petsmart for joint supplements yesterday, They were out of the only 2 that they carry and have just reg. vitamins. I did find a hip/joint treat that you feed them according to weight. They are Natural recipe brand. I hope I didn't mess up by getting those. They are SOOO hard. I felt bad giving them to Beau. But, he atet hem and seem to like them. I did find some Chrondroitin/glucosamine online. I will order that today, I guess. Having a hard time really finding something in town. We live so far out and our petsmart is SMALL!! compared to others that I have been into...

You can order the Nupro Joint Supplement through Tri State's website. If you go to the Shopping tab, you will see a link to US Bones.

And they LOVE it. It is a flavored powder that you put in their food with a little warm water.

You may want to try www.arknaturals.com.

Their Sea 'mobility' jerky sticks are awesome and I've heard the Joint Rescue is really good too.

Everything they do is natural and USDA human grade.

Good stuff.

Hi All,

I've read a lot of the stories about HOD but I thought I'd add mine in too. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Bella is now 4 1/2 months old and doing OK. She was diagnosed with HOD at about 9 weeks and has had a very rough time. She has gone from partial paralysis in the back legs, diarrhea, bladder problems, front leg problems and neurological problems (rapid eye movement, head tilt, muscle twitch, etc). We got her on Rimadyl for about 1 month but switched her to steroids. She now is starting to walk and jog around but still has diarrhea. The neurological symptoms have gone away for now. It has been non stop and very expensive but we are sticking it out with her since we are so attached to her. We have seen serveral vets and even went to the state Vet school for a neurological exam. They thought she had lesions on the brainstem but it seems like it might just be more inflammation from the HOD. She currently has no vaccinations except for the mod-live distemper the breeder gave her at 6 weeks which is what we think triggered the HOD. How long does the HOD symptoms last? Is there any special food which might help with the diarrhea? She is on Eukanuba but was thinking of switching to Canadaie. Bella is a very sweet and smart puppy so any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks,

John

My boy was diagnosed with severe onset HOD at about 14 weeks old. In hindsight, we now know he was showing symptoms as early as 8 weeks old, when we brought him home.

I kept him on weight management food until the symptoms subsided for two reasons, to keep his weight down without sacrificing nutrients for the sake of his joints and because the brand we used was lower in protein...just in case there was any truth in the "protein theory".

Scout's symptoms eased up at about 6 months old.
