Hello everyone

I am new to the board and new to the breed. I just got a 7 month old blue male yesterday. He is beautiful and energetic. LOL He has been very well behaved so far. The only problem is that he has not been crate trained and that is a must for me. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the board!

The most important thing with crate training is getting them to like being in their crate so you'll want to start slow. Some tips that come to mind are...
*make sure he has toys in there that he enjoys (treat filled kongs seem to be very popular)
*praise him and give him a yummy treat when he goes in by himself, you can practice asking him to go in and when he does...reward!
*leave the door open for him to go in and out on his own while you're home
*put him in his crate with the door shut for short periods of time while you home and then build up to leaving the house for a few minutes here and there

You came to the right place to get advice with crate training, it's been discussed alot already and if you use the search option you're bound to discover a wealth of info! Congrats on your new boy, I can't wait to hear all about him.

Haus and I are from Texas. He was born on December 7,07. He weighs 62 pounds. He is fairly tall. I got him from someone who was living in an apartment and he got too big. He was raised with children and no problem so far with my little people puppies. He is however driving my 2 year old female Cairn to distraction. He likes to play and sometimes gets a little rough, but not mean, just playful. We will have some issues to work on, mouthing and jumping as well as crate training. Since we brought him home yesterday he has been quiet, but tonight is barking (loudly) at every sound.
I think we will do fine, just a few adjustments to make.

Welcome Haus! My only advise for crate training that is probably not useful is have a husband who has an easy job and is home all the time to work with your puppy! Worked well for me! Look forward to reading Haus stories!

Welcome! We're looking forward to seeing pictures.

I say give him a LOT of exercise to burn that energy off and the jitters from being in a new home so that he stops tormenting his new sister. Congratulations!
