Please take up all the offers from Australians on this board to help you. Getting your Weim in with a rescue is definitely the best option as opposed to just dropping them off at a shelter. It will take some work, research, traveling time, etc. from you, but it is definitely in the best interest of the dog.
Do you still need to pay the farmer $250/sheep if you rehome them? Honestly, it only seems fair. He has to recoup that loss somehow. I know $3,750 is a lot of money, but it seems it would be a big loss for him too. I would say those dogs are very lucky to have not been killed by the farmer as I am sure it was pretty emotional for him to see so many sheep suddenly dead. |

WOW! 15 sheep.......?!!!?
How long were these dogs out unattended for? I do not mean to point out the negative and overlook solutions, but common, having a weim means being a responsible dog owner because we all know how the breed is. They are hunting dogs, sure as hell they will go after animals even though they are soft bite hunting dogs. Maybe its just me but i would never leave any of my dogs outside unattended. I also agree that I do not blame the farmer for reporting the dogs and asking $250 a sheep, this is major damage due to lack of responsibility.
The worse thing you can do is drop them off at the pound. I would contact the rescue and see what they say. I do not see dogs that kill sheep as dangerous to human, they just have a strong prey drive, but not sure how the rescue will view the situation. |

I have lived near sheep for years and have never had a problem with them but on this occasion they decided to play. The worst thing is I dont think it was the Weim that did the killing I think it was my kelpie that did the damage however I still have to get rid of the both of them
Obviously rehomeing them would be the thing to do. She is an absolute sweet heart
She also suffers from and auto immune disease where her nose is red and sore for most parts of the year. Not the most attractive thing.
Do I try to rehome ????? Help |
