|
|
I am fostering/ to adopt a rescue dog from NYC, large male approx 1yrs old, has severe generalized demodic mange, and weighs only 42lbs.
Had him only 3 days started him on nutra natural lamb/rice and he is having severe diarrhea, also on ivemectin for the mange.
The first night I gave him a can of alpo, the next day alpo mixed with purina lamb/rice then in the evening started him on nutra. Because weight gain is most impt. I don't want to keep switching his food, The diarrhea started day two and continued ,got worse. Do you think I should keep him on the nutra , maybe his GI tract will adjust? I bought some activa yogurt and started giving him some. I also noticed some red in stools.
Has anyone else found that nutra gave their dog diarrhea? |

if he is sick, i would cook for him for a while..
1/2-1 cup white rice, 1/2 of a lg. boiled chicken breast, make moist with low sodium chicken both, add 1tbsp honey with a probiotic cap opened and sprinkled on..
3 times a day..
until his belly settles..
maybe a little bit of plain oatmeal with a tbsp of canned pumpkin in there, too once a day..
poor guy..
give him lots of TLC.. he'll perk up.. |

Agree with Hooch's Mom above- stick with very bland for a while.
If you are seeing "red" in his poo- it may be blood. You should probably consider another trip to the vet. blood in stools is not good.
Boiled chicken, low sodium, and rice is what it looks like he'll be living on for a while. Then switch to a higher quality food. Nutro is not a very good food and has been known to cause problems in dogs. |

| Bland is good and I have also used plain yogurt (I usually make my own) and cottage cheese added to the rice and chicken (served separately- they like the yogurt frozen too) |

Hi! Do you have A dog named Harpo/Harry?
I'd feed home coked as bland as possible for a few days and then add in NATURAL BALANCE limited ingredients diets Either Sweet Potato and fish or duck and potato. Go SLOWLY. If he needs to put on weight once his tummy is ok, feed him Satin Balls. Look up the recipe on our threads here.
thank you for helping rescue! |
