I love my new Weimer Gracie, but I have never had such a difficult time training a puppy. There is a stubborn streak that I have never seen a a pup before. She is 6 months old and I have has her for three months...
Any recommendations to keep her from jumping on me or others (before she gets any bigger!)?
I am crate training and take her out often, but she still has accidents inside...I just wish she would give me a sign that she needs to go out again.
Thanks!!!!

OK, you need to just start all over again from the beginning as if you just brought her home. Be aware that it's going to take far longer to train her becuase she has had 3 months of bad habits, but it can be done.
What do you mean she goes inside, do you mean inside the house or inside the crate?
Is she crate trained or are you still working on it?
What is your daily schedule like and her daily routine?
Jumping... I would give differnet advice depending on the dog. Does she know any obedience for example? Is she crate trained? |

| Is she squating to pee in the crate or is it just happening while she is laying down? I ask this because my Gracie has had some issues with urinary incontinence and sometimes goes in her sleep and doesn't even know it. Luckily it only happens on a rare occassion now (she's 8 months) but right around 6 months it was happening quite often. |

We had Hannah potty trained within a week, and I am guessing we are one of the lucky families.
We took her out on the hour during the day. (well I did anyhow, until everyone was home from work and school) Anytime she went potty outside she got a treat.
I never crated her. I did try it but her yelps were pitiful, and I couldn't handle her crying and the younger kids crying for me to let her out. It just didn't work in this house. She went to bed with my husband and I, and any time she started fidgeting in bed at night I would go take her out. The week was tiring, but honestly, we have had maybe 2 accidents in the house during the whole time we have had her.
We went absolutely bonkers ecstatic every single time she went potty outside and she was rewarded every time too. Usually just with half of a dog biscuit. She especially likes the peanut butter ones from Pet Smart.
I have a feeling this will only work if you have someone staying in the house full time though. Good luck!!!
p.s. As for the jumping, we would turn our back and tell her to settle down before we would pay attention to her. Now she waits until I am sitting down before she starts her "kissing, oh thank God you are home" routine. If I am not sitting she will knock me over on my behind. |

does she pace, koa will pace and stand by the door when he needs to go, watch what she does before she goes for all clues its is tricky but it gets better or easier to notice, but another way is to just get her on a schedule, I had some good advice when I got Koa to take him out for how many months he is, 2 months every 2 hours and praise him, and so forth,
The jumping on, was hard, in the beginning it was hard, to protect myself, I would hold up one knee and lift my arms that way he could not jump on me so he wouldjust jump in the air, now it has worked to the point of me just holding my arms in the air and saying down koa and sit, when he sits I will pet him, not until he sits though.
Note everything with cookies and praise always makes Koa beam and learn quicker!! hehe! |

| I feel for you. Georgia was really a handful at 6 months. She wasn't too difficult to housetrain, though. We do kennel her. The kennel has an adjustable "wall" and we kept her spot just big enough for her to turn around. She would not potty in her kennel. We would always take her outside immediately after waking, about 15 minutes after eating or drinking and to the same spot in the yard. We would tell her to "go potty" each time we took her out and then praise her with "good go potty, Georgia!" After a while we just learned the signs of when she needed to go out. Now she goes to the back door and nudges the door knob when she needs to potty. Good luck... |

I'm trying to do this with Gandalf and it's not been possible to handle since neither me or my husband are at home full time.
We go out before we leave to work and also when we go out to lunch.
Then when we get back from work we are going outside every hour (sometimes less).
But, at least during the time out he does it job inside the house (usually in the kitchen floor)
I hate this but there's nothing more I can do, except crate train him... Perhaps we go for this..
I must admit that things are getting better (slowly) since he doesnt poop a lot at home (he does it a lot outside now) but the pee is worst (at least 2 or 3 pees are on the floor when I arrive home).
How can I "tell" him that is "NOT GOOD"?
what is said here is that Gandalf is 3 months old so he needed to go every 3 hours??? I don't think he can hold it that long....
this is the thing that is bothering me more... Ok... the bitting also makes me crazy sometimes but I give him a lot of chew stuff (toys and bones and all)... |

| When I Got my male at Eight weeks old I let him out every hour to go to the bathroom. It only took about a week to potty train him with very few accidents. |
