Haha. That is too funny. We call ours Stella Bella as well. I think it just goes together.
Also thanks for the information wildlifecr13 on the urban sprawl. Very interesting. Just now had a chance to read it as my power has been out since Sunday afternoon thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Ike. Finally back on. |

glad to hear you are out of the dark.

Yeah, many people here in Central Columbus still don't have power. I feel so bad for them. I have been offering to help all my friends and family that don't.
We are still waiting for a claim adjuster to see how damage was done to our roof and siding. |

Ah... so is everyone else... its why commuting is a pain and the "country" is really no longer the country. Sorry... land use planning is a bit of what I do, and the sprawl of people from urban centers to "the country" is having a major negative impact on our economy many places - esp Ohio. Not my place to judge, so Im not calling you a bad person, just sharing some information. Its really a very big problem that most people have no understanding of.

Agreed. I live in what can currently be called the country. Im in a ranch house on 5 acres. Behind me are several hundred acres of preserved woodland...no hunting allowed. On either side of me are corn fields, across from me is a vacant farmhouse sitting on several hundred more acres of corn fields. Down the road its the same...BUT..the people who own all this land basically sold out to the highest bidder....the plans are already drawn up. On one side of me there will be a single family home, on the other side there will be 2 single family homes. across from me the plans call for a 20 home subdivision, and the field down the road is probably going to have another 30-40 homes put in...
I grew up in this house, and thought things would always stay the same, thats why I moved back and bought it from my parents. The houses are probably a good 5 years or so away from being built, but once they are this wont be the country anymore. It will just be another are of suburban sprawl.... |

| I'm from Ohio and new to the board, as well. I live east of Cincinnati in a rural area, so found the information very interesting. I would be willing to pay 2x the taxes to live this lifestyle, though. I grew up in a suburban community and far prefer the rural setting. However, I try to do so responsibly as possible- ie supporting the local businesses, farmer's markets, etc. What kills me, though, is when the local grocery doesn't even have fresh produce, especially considering how many resources they have in the community...but that's an entirely different point. |
