Hello from central Ohio - I adopted Josey (after the Outlaw Josey Wales) from Louisville Weimaraner Rescue on Aug. 31. She had been a foster with Christina who posts on this site. Josey is the first Weim for my husband and I and we are already hooked! I have wanted a dog who can run with me since my old running buddy (Lobo, an 11 year old Lab/Chow mix) developed hip displaysia and had to start taking it easier several years ago. We changed her name to Josey because we had such a hard time explaining to our friends and family that her name was Jovi (like Bon Jovi). I suppose it also had something to do with the fact that we are both fans of Clint Eastwood, cowboys, and anything to do with the Old West!
Josey goes for a 2-mile run with me almost every day, and she makes me pay for it if we have to skip a day! I think she would love to go farther but a couple of veterinarians have told me I should keep her at 2 miles a day until she is 18 months old. She just turned 1 so we will just be patient - I want her to be my running buddy for lots of years to come so I'm playing it safe. We do some hiking with the old dog too, but I don't count that in her mileage. She also has about 5 acres of yard which is "Invisble Fenced", so most days she gets good and tired before we go to bed.
We got very lucky with her - she was housebroken (thanks Christina!), she gets along with our cat, and generally just fits right in to our family! She is very sweet and loveable and now we can't even imagine life without her. Anyway I am looking forward to trading stories and advice with all of you on this site. I will try to post some photos of Josey (from today at the reservoir), but if I somehow mess that up I'll post one as soon as I can get it figured out!

We live near LaRue, about an hour north of Columbus. What part of Ohio did you call home? It sounds like you may be returning? |

YEAHHHH Darcy you finally joined us. There is my beautiful lady! Her side looks back to normal.
I love hearing how my fosters are doing so thanks so much for posting and sharing new pics I haven't seen yet.
Josey is great, I really missed her when she left, but I couldn't have ask for a more perfect family and life for her, so thanks so much for opening your home and hearts to her.
Give Josey and Lobo a hug for me (and Hip Hop, hehe). |

Here is a photo of both our kids. Wade was home with the dogs today so they were extra worn out tonight They don't stay that close to each other for long - Josey is always pawing, biting, or climbing on poor Lobo so he usually tries to find a good hiding place.

I think once Josey settles down from her puppy years you will find her and Lobo cuddled up all the time. Weims usually love to cuddle with other dogs. There is actually a thread on here about Weimapiles where Weims are just piled on top of each other sleeping. hehe.
Thanks again for joining us and updates. I showed her new pictures to Jeremy as well. |
