Dude! You are so awesome for helping her out and being her savior. Thanks for being so darn kind. Sounds like she's doing really great so far.
I can tell you when I got Scooter, he had been so neglected that it took a while for him to come around but now he's a snuggle bug and is slowly building up his confidence. I bet in no time she will be running around with your other sweethearts without a care in the world. |

this am when we let her outside, she ran around the yard in circles with zoe and riley. not a fast run, not like they run, but a good jog. her hips are a bit beat up, probably from having so much puppy weight so often, and her back legs turn in a bit, but she doesnt seem to let it bother her.
she got a 2 block walk in last night and 1 block this am. we hit the vet tonight, so hopefully we will know more. oh, and after she poops she gets all excited and comes to let me know about it - snuggles right in and gets a good scratching. she is learning that from riley i think.
i will get a few more pictures soon. we gave her bath #3 last night and did a very thorough ear cleaning. the horrid smell is nearly gone... it still lingers, but we have it under control to a large degree. she also got a brand new collar - its very pretty on her, and she fell asleep on the floor next to me while i worked at the computer last night... she was sawing logs with the best of them. its pretty amazing how well she is doing... except stairs and laminate floor - still not a fan of either of those. |

Heidi hit the vet today. Here is our list of issues...
1. Demodectic mange - we are treating this - go back in 2 weeks to check it. Doubt it will transfer to our dogs. May take 2-3 months to fully treat it.
2. Heart murmur - she is heartworm negative, so we are hoping this is a malnutrition/dehydration thing. If it isnt better in 2 weeks when we go back, they want to do a chest x-ray. Its apparently a pretty strong murmur.
3. Skin infection - its a staph type infection - we are on medicine for it - also should not transfer to our dogs - we have a special shampoo to use twice a week too - her skin is terrible - her ears have a lot of open sores and she has bald spots on her that I thought were scars... turns out its the mange and other skin issues.
4. Yeast infection in the ears - also on meds for that. They were literally caked with gunk... we cleaned most of it out.. the meds will finish the job.
5. Fungal culture - pending... she may have ringworm... a much greater chance this makes it to our dogs, or us.
6. She may have intestinal parasites - I am hoping her poo firms up a bit tonight and I can take a solid sample tomorrow.
The entire vets office fell in love with her... both her story and her personality. Once we get her cleaned up, she will be a fantastic pet to someone. Karen is a wreck... its been 11 months since Lola was diagnosed, and this one's heart murmur means she still isnt out of the woods. Just so worried about her and hope we can get her into a great home soon. |

Oh poor girl... She has a laundry list of issues, but it sounds like they can all be managed fairly easily!
Love + Medicine = Happy, healthy Heidi ready for her new forever home!
You guys are awesome - keep up the good work!

| Wowie...that's a ton of issues to work out. I know you are worried about her, but she has had the best opportunity right now with you than she ever would have. You are giving her the love and care to get her better and I'm sure she knows it too. Give her big kisses from us in Oklahoma, and some big hugs to you too! |

Wow! What a list.
Just fyi...one of my bosses has a rescue and the dog had this really bad, a raw diet was one of the best ways they found to aid in treating it. Just a thought, might help with some of the other issues too. |
