How is the best way to get him to hand stack? He free stacks beautifully, but anytime you try to hand stack its gets ugly.
My sister handles him, I just sit in a chair and watch. He knows where I am every second. |

I once showed a soft dog that just didn't like being "man-handled." It makes things a bit harder for the handler. You don't HAVE to hand stack your dog... I ended up just free stacking her all the time.
Is he nervous because you are outside the ring? There are lots of dogs whose owners have to go hide when someone else is showing them...
Why don't you take him to some handling classes so he can get used to being hand stacked? The dog that I mentioned had never been shown nor been to any classes. |

That would explain Logan's hesitance to being hand stacked, he's a super soft dog, free stacks like a champ, too, though.
I did just what Anne said, I take him to classes and spend about 15 minutes a day hand stacking him, touching him, moving him all the while he's chewing on a yummy bait ask him to hold it and then reward him. It seems to work for him. He's 6 months old, how old is yours?
I'm working on getting him to hold it longer and longer now... and someday he may hold it for as long as I need him to! LOL
I'm glad there are more conformation people here, I'm so new to the sport and I'm looking forward to exchanging news and updates on how the babies are doing! |

Derek is 10 months old. He already has 2 points and usually wins his class.
We tried me hiding and me in sight and he is better is he can see me. My sister is the only one who I allow to feed him steak, so he associates her with good treats. She takes him to conformation classes but on a night I can't go.
We have another big show this weekend so we'll see how he does. |

Oh yay!! GOOD LUCK!! Can't wait to hear about your BIS
I wish I had a sister that wanted to show. I like admiring my handsome boy rather than trying to make him behave myself! LOL |
