My four are all mine...even though that was not the intent. My old man, Jake, was only supposed to be a foster. But I fell in love with him and all the difficulties that he came with. He is my lover man....

I completely understand where your coming from... I keep falling in love with my fosters.. The two I have now I am tempted...so tempted!! BUT then I can't foster anymore if I do.. Finding good families makes it all worth it cause as you know we cannot keep them all... I want to help as many as I can... but i am wearing thin!! My Sammy and Shelby are angels I love them both to peices!! Have a few nibbles on them from some good families so its a we'll see.... There are so many more just waiting to be fostered.... |

Shes 7 years old acts like the alpha with these bigger weims hehehehehehe she has them all fooled. I love the mixes too I think they come out BEAUTIFUL. Her fur is like silk.
Lady in the back Sammy in the leaves
Here Lady is as a puppy with our late Amber... Amber was never thrilled with Lady. Lady LOVES all the dogs we bring in.. She was CRUSHED when when Amber passed away.
 |
Lady is gorgeous...I love that beautiful liver color. We have a friend that had a GSP that was all liver.. Amber is lovely (RIP sweetie). She looks annoyed in that picture with Lady...they are so funny. |
Thanks we think shes beautiful to... she has a natural shine that can't be beat.. Amber was the best weim... when she died a part of me did too...o geezz here I go crying again...sighhh after she passed I swore no more dogs I was so crushed. I was going to take the best of care to Lady and see her through the longest life I could provide and never look back. I was so depressed and sick over Amber dying. I did look at pet finder, people did call me about dogs...but I didn't want anymore I was in to much pain. THEN a friend sent me an ad from craigslist... 1 year old female weimaraner free to good home... I opened the email and balled my eyes out as the picture looked just like Amber...Thats how we ended up with Ashley (who by the way looks NOTHING like Amber in life) Shortly after that I was horrified on how many more wayward weimaraners that were out there. They could get into the wrong hands! So I began sending info to Great lakes about Weims in need of rescue... I joined their group next thing you know my house is bursting with weimaraners... I feel in a way its in honor of Amber, who when was a puppy was a handful! To all those other weims out there!!! Hang in there guys were trying to save you!! To those owners out there ready to throw in the towel hang in there they are so worth it! Your adult & senior weims are the sweetest dogs in the world. |

Hi We may have talked on the phone... Someone had called me from Louisville Rescue the other day about one of our applications. Its great to meet you too. So many people think I am nuts for fostering... I can't get it through to them how awesome it feels to find that unwanted dog a home to a family who LOVES them unconditionally....
What do you think about starting a new post on what to expect when your expecting a new weimaraner??? Focusing on not only puppies but adult dogs, foster dogs, and introductions? Like common mistakes owners make... defining aggression etc? Want to help me get that started?? Think its important.. What do you think? |

We have had several of these topics come across the forum that people can search on but maybe a refresher topic would be a good idea for all of the people on here considering, fostering, adopting, or getting a new pup addition to their clan that are new to the forum |

Tarverfamily, THANK YOU for all you do! Its so refreshing to see people like you and Lynn opening your homes and hearts to these babies. I would love love to see a post about what to expect when getting a weim. Also, i would love to see a post from you guys that are experienced at this about what to expect when getting a foster or some helpful tips for those of us that are new to fostering. I had a foster for just a couple of days and it was very very last minute and I felt i was very unprepared for her. In the next few weeks I will probably be getting another foster as my work hrs are changing but i would love some advise. |

Interesting that you got into rescue for somewhat the same reasons I did. I rescue to honor the memory of my Max. I don't foster ( well, not longer than overnight, anyway) but I do a bunch of shelter checks, evaluations, home inspections, etc, along with miles and miles of tranports.
In another vein.. one of the local gun shops here has a boy GSP/Weim mix named "Nibbles" who hangs out at the store and occasionally sweeps the customers for treats. He looks just like yours. |
