I'm so glad to hear that there are other little females out there. Indy is just on 50 lbs at 1 year old, and she's dwarfed by most of the other Weims we see at the beach. But as someone else said, don't dare tell her she's little! She out-wrestles her favourite weim friend, who is a 105 lb, 2 year old male. We call her the little gnat, cos she just keeps coming back and buzzing around him when he's completely exhausted of her.

River's 9 months and 50 lbs. I keep on telling her I'm waiting for her legs to grow! Love the description of the little gant River tackles my sil's German Shepherd, pounces on him, rolls him, pins him down, annoys him to death (but he LOVES it of course). The funniest was when she was little, 25 lbs, playing with him, was still a little hesitant by his size so she would get under him and nip at his face from between his front legs The little ones know how to survive!

50lbs is NOT little! It's normal! A female adult weim should be between 50-65lbs at a healthy weight. Even a very tall female weim shouldn't be over 70 or so lbs, I saw a 27" tall female (which is huge) who was very big boned and carrying a few extra pounds and even she weighed in at 71lbs. I'll duck now, but it's true...

Weims are NOT large dogs. They are moderately sized hunting dogs.

forgot to add, Ari is at the top of the height standard, and she weighs around 65 pounds... she is a slim girl (loooong legs like her daddy!), although she could do with more muscle so i'd say she should weigh a little more.
I prefer females on the smaller side, and males of medium height... just a personal preference. it is preference enough that I have taken size into account when choosing a stud dog.

I know when I was interviewing breeders to get my boy 11 yrs ago, I was agast at the amount of breeders that were bragging their sires were 100 + pounds and the dams were 80+ lbs.

My boy was selected pet quality b/c he was too large of a pup. He's betwwen 28.5 and 29" at the withers and when in tip top shape 75 lbs. He has floated to 80-81 lbs in the winter time.

Romy is the tallest Weim I've ever seen (30" at the shoulder)
but by no means the heaviest, at about 90 lb.! Really thin.
The basketball player of Weimdom.
I've always thought he was probably neutered shortly after birth
(probably by the butcher who messed up his dewclaw removal)
because he is so poorly endowed! Seedge, on the other hand,
is quite a bit smaller but waaay better endowed--he was neutered
just before coming to me (he was three).
Edited to say: like Seedge he's a rescue. I'd have taken whomever
Dyana selected for me. Just got lucky....

I'm glad this thread has come up again, because I've noticed a lot on this forum lately people wanting to know the size of their weim and when they will be getting bigger/how big they'll get etc.
Weimaraners are not a HUGE breed. Sure you will get your odd example (met the biggest weim i've ever seen last year, he was the size of a dane - a half brother to my girl), but weimaraners are a MODERATE breed and shouldn't be hugely boned, massively muscled dogs, nor should they be tall. A big weim should not be the norm, it should be unusual.
Nothing pleases me more than to see a lovely muscled, moderate and elegant sized Weimaraner - unfortunately it seems like everything else, bigger is better these days
As I wrote on a previous post, I took size into account when i picked a stud dog. I picked a moderate sized male with nice balance and bone, as my female is not on the small side. The result has been a very nice size across the litter, with the female ending up around 62cm and 27kg (57lb). The males all range from about 65cm to about 68cm, nicely muscled but not heavy.

I couldn't agree more. I think a lot of people have forgotten what this breed is supposed to look like and what they are bred for. Really big and muscular does not account for a good hunting dog. They need to be agile and slim with really good endurance. It looks like everything these days is better if it is bigger.

It seems this way across all breeds. A friend received her Rottweiler puppy from a Farm who bred a sire who was huge, and pretty, ignoring the simple fact all the sires litter mates including the sire had to have major knee reconstructive surgeries and all died from congestive heart failure in the 8-9yr old range.

oh well, I'm preaching to the choir, I wish I had more of a gift to persuade gently, to help get the word out about responsible breeding in a positive manner. I just get angry and want to start screaming at ppl. Hopefully with age and practice I can hone my gentle persuasion techniques.......
