So I was browsing petfinder this evening and I found this beautiful old girl. Broke my heart. I was literally sitting on the couch blubbering like an idiot when I was looking at her profile. I know I shouldn't even look at petfinder since we can't even think about getting another dog for at least another year, but sometimes I just like to browse....

This girl is in a county animal shelter in St. Clairsville, OH. I don't know for sure if it is a kill shelter or not or how long she has been there, but I do know that a 12 year old girl doesn't belong there. I know rescues are swamped, and I know that seniors (especially one this old) aren't easy to adopt out, but I felt like I had to do something to try to help get her the bleep out of there. This shelter is about 1.5 hours from my house. I am willing to go and meet her, pull her, and/or help with transport if somebody, anybody can take her.

I have put the word out to some other rescues that we know in her area. If you ever know someone in the Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri area that finds a Weim in need of rescue or an owner surrender have them contact us at: www.heartlandweimrescue.org/

Awww, sweet girl. I hope someone is able to take her home.

I don't know why I look at petfinder either, but it breaks my heart every time I do.

Sometimes I wish I had a farm with LOTS of land just so I could adopt all the weims that needed homes. This makes me so sad. Who surrendures an old girl like that? So sad.

It is sad. Unfortunately we see tons of this in the rescues. Sometimes it is due to the owner passing though. Family members of the deceased are often reluctant to bring the Weims into their homes.

We (Heartland Weim Rescue) currently have an 11-yr old that I'm considering adopting to be with my 9-yr old. I would own a hundred of them if I had the space. =)

Weims become victims of the human circumstance. Which is extremely tragic. If the human race had as much respect for itself as Weims do for us the world would be so much better than it is today.

aww she is cute. I hope some one adopts her.. I don't regret adopting a 13 yr old at all.. she is great and still has a lot of life left in her.

Always good to hear others that don't believe the word "senior" exist. Maya is 9 and I call her a pup everyday.

The Louisville Weimaraner Rescue is trying to help her! They posted this on their Facebook Page:

Shirley is a 12 year old female who was picked up as a stray in a rural area of St. Clairsville, OH during the awful heatwave in June. She was dehydrated and suffering from heat stroke. The Belmont County Animal Shelter took her in and nursed her back to health and that is where she still sits today. She has been in the shelter for two months and is starting to get depressed and agitated. We just found out about her last week and are desperately trying to find a home for her to live out her remaining life in. The shelter is no place for this. Shirley is a sweet and affection gal who loves to eat and lay around on her dog bed.
We think she was used to running free during the day and maybe lived on a farm but loves to be around people and loves to sleep indoors. She doesn't love her crate, but will tolerate it. She has become frustrated at the shelter and sometimes tears up her bed a night, but we think ifshe were given more time, attention and freedom, she would be a total doll to have around. She gets along with all sized dogs and all sized people. She is spayed, house-trained and will let you know when she needs to go out, is UTD on shots and heartworm negative. LWR will pay her pull fee of $100 and since she does have a tumor on her back leg, we are willing to help with any initial medical bills you incur when getting her checked out. We will also provide a volunteer driven transport to get her to you.
Please contact Denise at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you can find the space in your heart and home for Shirley. Please do not call the shelter, we have already notified them of our intent to place her and can answer any questions about her you may have.

I really hope someone can find it in their heart to take this girl in!
