TOPIC: Today's Fun Topic

Today's Fun Topic 09 Aug 2012 15:26 #282590

In the spirit of all the fun topics lately, I thought I'd start another one. Tell us about your "heart dog." Was it a Weim or another breed? What made that dog so special? All dogs are special but a "heart dog" connects to us in a way no other dog ever has.

Milo is my heart dog. But our first Weim was my husband's heart dog. His name was Jasm and they were soul mates. Jasm loved the whole family but anyone could tell his heart belonged to my husband. I've never seen a dog so loyal. Jasm hunted only for my husband and wouldn't go out with anyone else. Whenever my husband was deployed, Jasm was visibly depressed. It was really sad to see him get so down. But as soon as hubby got home, Jasm was back to normal and a happy dog again! I've never seen a dog and a person so connected as those two were. I always teased that they were soul mates but in reality, I truly believe they were connected at the soul.

My first dog was probably my heart dog. He was faithful beyond compare and I believe he would have tried to kill anyone that attempted to hurt me. He was a Lab mix and a wonderful companion.

My Lab now is my husband's heart dog. They love each other so much, and Nitro gets so excited when my husband comes home every day.

Terra may top my first guy. She is truly something special. I have never had a dog with her spirit and loving nature. She's funny, smart and just full of life. I can tell she is just so happy to be alive every second of every day and I actually admire that.

Ziggie is absolutely my heart dog. I grew up on a farm and always had animals, but no animal has ever come as close to stealing my heart as Ziggie.

A year and a half ago I brought home to my daughter a JRT/Yorkie mix a guy was giving away in the Walmart parking lot. We had lost her Chihuahua earlier that year to a seizure. My friend was going to town and called to see if I wanted to go. I told her no didnt need anything but she bugged me and so I went. Leaving Walmart a guy was standing out in the parking lot holding a puppy. Dog crazy me had to see it. It was a male and I dont know why but I asked if he had a female. Yep she was in the car. It was Easter. My daughter was asking for another dog. So she ended up coming home with me. I love dogs but I prefer dogs over 50lbs. Somehow this little 8lber has my heart wrapped around her paw. I got her for my daughter but in the end she's really mine. Or should I say Im hers?

I've heard of people talking about their heart dogs but never really got it until Zoey came into my life. I have an 11 year old mutt that I said when she was 6 weeks old. She is a great dog and has been there for me always but she's more like a friend than anything. I love her to death as I do with all my dogs but when we're talking about heart dogs Zoey is mine. My daughter tells me all the time I need to get her another dog because I stole Zoey!

My heart dog is my English Setter, James. the second I saw him he was special. He is the love of my life and so incredibly special to me. he is devoted to me like the others arent.
I thought I was so lucky that I had found my heart dog, and thought there would never be another dog like James... and there won't be... but Lulu, who stayed when I hadn't planned on it, and became the dog that was everything I was looking for in a Weim, makes me wonder... I'm thinking she's my heart Weim!

My heart dog is Skooter, my 7 year old Chiweenie! Ive always grown up large dogs and when I got my first apartment I was ready for my first dog to call my own. I looked at shelters for atleast six months for a lab mix of some kind and one day I ran across Skooter(formerly known as Longfellow). It really was love at first site! He's my little goofy mutt with crooked feet and a bum tail haha. He can read me like a book and thinks hes a human. He also has the typical "little man syndrome." hes the first dog that's ever been just mine and a part of me! And now Ranger is my second

My heart dog was my last Weim Buster who passed away in December 2009. We connected so good, he was my shadow!

After all the dogs we have had Zeddie is mine, but right now if I am in the room she is laying on Kathy's feet ut if I stand or right beside her. She's the guaedian, bue if I move or stand up she is instantly glued to me, takes every step. If I leave she lays down and cries like a bay at a low volume. But if I walk out of the house with a gun and don't take her she is absolutely berserk. If no gun and I leave her she will eventually settle sown right by Kathy. A shared dog or maybe see shares us.

Though I had a dog growing up,(A Lhasa Apso - got her when I was 5 and put her down when I was 20) I have really connected with my pup now and I can't even imagine how our bond will grow with the years to come. He is my "heart dog" because he is so well tempered and exellent with my daughter, even for a pup. Jaeger is my first dog I've had as an adult and the long journey of finding him was sooo worth it.

My heart dog keeps changing (to the current one)--
at the moment it's Romy, but it's really also Seedge.
One afternoon I was walking home from downtown, and
on a whim texted Dyana, Romy's rescuer: "I loves me
some Rome." She texted back a smile-face.

Eeek that is hard! I love Henry so much, he is such a great addition, he is our first family dog. I had a wire haired fox terrier, Pog, growing up and she was also wonderful. I have to say it is a tie for my heart for different reasons LOL

Charlie is mine
This girl has filled a part of my heart that I didn't know existed.
She is my first dog ever.
I look forward to everyday with her..I try to make her as happy as she makes me!

they all have special spots in my heart, but my heart dog is Blue. <3
He was our first Weim--a shelter adoption on a whim. He came to us shortly after losing our first "together" dog and helped my husband through a job loss and depression and many other family losses including his brother & my grandmother.
He also came to us with a boatload of undisclosed issues like fear biting. And he bloated
But never giving up on him brought us to this wonderful world of Weims... we've met so many wonderful friends, gotten involved in rescue, joined various clubs and even gotten interested in dogshows all because one sweet boy sat "like a champ" in a shelter kennel and stole our hearts.
Even after losing him, we know he remains watching over us and he sent us our most recent rescue!

Adopt a Senior Weim... Old dogs can teach you new tricks!
