This may be a dumb question. But, when a Rescue contacts a shelter because of a dog they want to take does the Rescue pay an adoption fee or donate anything to that shelter? I know that our shelter will call Rescues and give dogs to them but we have never had one contact us. I'm not sure why I'm curious, just didn't know. I'm so glad that this little weimy is being saved! |

| I think usually rescues do not have to pay a shelter when a dog is released to them. But the times I have pulled a dog, I have needed to show the rescue license. Sometimes, though, owners want to be paid in order for their dog to go to rescue. |

It just depends on the shelter, most don't charge fees when we contact them but some do charge for the fees they were out for shots HW test etc. If they help transport the dog to our boarding facility I usually try to give them a donation to at least cover their gas.

| A lot of the humane societies won't ask for anything. I have had animal shelters, animal control pass on releasing an animal to us unless we are willing to pay the fee. I think that is absurd. Considering how much we put forth to get the animal homed, but I am sure there is things going on behind it that I don't know so I shouldn't judge. |

There's a shelter near me that is getting funny about releasing Weims to rescue now. They consider Weims (at least the PB ones) to be "highly adoptable" so they want to place them themselves. They want the money, really. Just ran into this again last week. Of course, when a mis-placement goes wrong, who do they call to clean up THEIR mess?? yeah, you know it. |

Exactly! We are the ones that specialize in this, that's why we do it. they are costing the dog more mentally by having to rehome them so many times do to poor decisions by some untrained nitwit! *sigh* Can be very frustrating at times. [/quote] |

With our shelter that I help at we will call a rescue nearly immediately if we have any sort of breed dog. It makes no since to keep a dog to try and get an adoption fee from it if a rescue can take them. It's about giving the dog the best home possible, and if that means calling a rescue then that's the route taken.
I figured that there were probably some scuffles with different shelters. I know that a lot of times the mentality is about how much money can the organization make rather than finding the right home for the dog. And, simply put, that's just wrong. |

| the shelter we just pulled from just asks that we send papers back to them showing either spayed/neutered and rabies was done asap. that way we dont have to pay. |
