TOPIC: Help! Bailey ate a TON of cat food..

Re: Help! Bailey ate a TON of cat food.. 16 Mar 2012 19:25 #274408

Yeah, I can imagine. I'm still expecting a huge blow out poop from Bailey after all that. She had a normal sized one shortly after but after all that there's gotta be more where that came from!

I hope you get some good sleep tonight!

Ugh, so she was acting thirsty and it had been a few hours so I put down a small bowl of water. She drank the water but now is hacking again like she's going to throw up but not throwing up... soooo now I'm worried all over again.

Thank you! I hope you have nothing else to worry about with Bailey.

My dogs get into the cat food quite a bit...they are sneaky little devils lol. Anyways i have never had a problem with them getting into it...yeah if they got a hold of enough they will get big bellies and will sometimes throw up but that is when they gorge themselves on it and like with your pup it has some white foam to it my vet has said that that is usually because of saliva build up due to eating a dry food to fast. We even had the same thing happen recently with a catahoula pup we adopted but it was with dog food. Anyways we have never had poo blowouts after getting into cat food or any other ill side effects...other than being shorted on cat food for the cat lol. In your case i would not be worried about bloat unless the tummy noises stop and her belly stays or gets more distended for no apparent reason. I would say that i hope she learned something from this but i am betting that what she learned you are not going to like which is that she can get over the gate and thst she likes cat food lol.

I was thinking the poop was going to be from the sheer amount of food ingested, not necessarily that it was cat food since the cat food is from the same manufacturer so is probably similar to hers in a lot of ways. She did poop THREE TIMES tonight, compared to her usual one but she seems to be feeling better now!

And yes..I'd LOVE to say she's learned her lesson but I am 100% sure that she has not and would do it again in a heartbeat! Luckily she got UNDER the gate and not over it so once she gets a bit bigger she won't be able to wiggle her butt under it anymore! Of course then she'll get even bigger and will probably get over it lol

She's doing much better today! It's been a crazy day and we have been in and out of the house all day, so she's now bouncing off the walls with excitement..but other than that she's doing great!

Thank you to everyone, you were all very reassuring and helped me not to completely panic last night!
