I have had Thor for 5 months since he was 1 month old, I knew what to expect as I read the weimaraners behavior before getting him... Two days ago he finished all the furnitures in the living room... all of the material inside the couch was in the floor, amazing thing... I will wait till he's bigger to get new ones, but, will this stop??? what should I do? I love thor and dont even think to get rid of him, but I would really like to control this destructive behavior. what if I get new furnitures and he destroy them again... It looks like everything that has sponge material inside is worth to be destroyed by him... thanks in advance for your advice... Give him the correct things to chew on like Kongs and bones when he's chewing the wrong things. I don't exactly remember how old he was because it was gradual. Do you have things that he is allowed to chew on? Every time he show the destructive behavior give him a shew. And use the crate when you aren't home. My 10 month old pup is still in her crate until her chewing stops. You have to keep a very close eye on them at all times. They like to find things to chew on. Starr is 8 now and she has been out of her crate since she was like 8 months old. She is perfect in the house, except when it comes to food. You have to put all the food up or she will get into that. No puppy should leave it's mother/siblings before 7 weeks, however some breeders will keep their puppies 8, 9, 10, or even up to 12 weeks (I think I just read that Pam, Cherrystone, does this). There are so many critical things puppies learn from their littermates, that your puppy missed out on. This might bring some unique challenges for you. But of course, what's done is done. All you can do now is work your hardest to train, socialize and stimulate (mentally and physically) your puppy. If I were you, I would so some research on the critical stages in a puppy's development to really understand what your pup might have missed (ie bite inhibition....does he bite you hard?). I'm by no means any kind of expert (just trying to raise my own 5 month old) but such development information is readily available in most puppy training books. Eeeek That is way too young for a pup to leave its littermates. Yes you are correct I don't let my puppies go until they are 12 weeks. There are a few reasons why I do that. I like for them to get to play a little longer with their littermates and mother. I have a "puppy program" that I put them through. Pups are introduced to water- swimming. Pups are taken out to the johnny house every day from the age of 6 weeks. They get introduced to birds and to chase them. I start clicker training them for "here", introduction to the placeboard, and retrieving to the placeboard. By waiting until they are 12 weeks of age and putting them through the puppy program it also allows me to evaluate them a little bit better for field ability and also obedience ability. It tells me which pups are more willing to please and which ones may be a little more independent. Maybe things are different down there? Did you get him from a breeder? I had a terrible time controlling Duke's puppy biting and resorted to a spray bottle filled with water. I wouldn't normally do this except in extreme cases. My husband didn't even want to come home from work because the biting was so bad! He was cured within a few days with the squirt bottle. I think you are going to have a challenge on your hands because your pup didn't get to learn so much from his Mom and littermates. Good luck! Whenever he would bite me I would scream like it really hurt me and pull my hand away, this stopped it in no time at all. Maybe it can work for you!? Good luck! Our Weim was our first puppy too! We've made it to a year though and I don't know what we would do without him!
