Anyone up for a challenge? I will hand deliver!

Sabriel has lived with us for 2 months now, and I'm starting to feel very discouraged about finding a good home for her and her 'issues' - she is not getting a bit better about the crate, and some days I fear she has gotten worse...

I would love it if I could find someone like all of you to take her... but I think people like 'us' are few and far between. Confused

I have had lots of people come to meet her with no interest... Plus I'm feeling sort of let down by the rescue group - I was copied on an e-mail last night from a potential adopter who was so frustrated at a lack of response that she told us to just completely disregard her application, which I never even got to see... I e-mailed her to apologize (which she accepted my apology and wished me luck finding her a home) but it was too late, they adopted a dog from another organization.... but Sabriel just never got a chance with them and I worry we may have lost out on other opportunities that were less vocal about it...

Lately the thought "If I had just adopted Sophie, I wouldn't be in this mess" has crossed my mind more than once...

Dont get discouraged. RESCUE needs volunteers and you are a great one!
Keep in mind that so many applications fly aroud adn only VOLUNTEERS are trying to match Weims and adopters up so it can take a bit...

Thank you for all you're doing to rehab and rehome Sabriel!

Aw, Mindy, I wish I had some advice or words of wisdom for you. I know how hard it is to have a difficult foster. And believe me, my thoughts weren't as kind. Is the rescue being at all helpful to YOU? Have you informed them of how difficult things are becoming? I know that all rescues don't operate the same, but I will ONLY volunteer with MWR from now on. I know for a fact that if I were to foster through MWR and I was having a hard time, if Chris could not help me, she would take the dog back and find a new foster home. The last thing she wants is to lose a volunteer AND have a rescue in a less than perfect situation. she was appalled by the way things were handled with Bo.

Go home and have a bottle of wine.....or two Wink !

I think I am the only person available to foster right now... the rescue is _small_ really just one person who is trying to do too much, and I've offered to help her but I think she can't admit how overwhelmed she is.

Usually the fosters end up at her home (she can take up to 3) or her boarding kennel...

Nobody seems to have any words of advice for me to help this dog, but to 'just keep doing what you're doing', and although the gal offered to take her if it was too much for us, in my heart I know sending Sabriel to live with up to 9 (yup, she has 6 dogs of her own) other dogs may not be the best environment for her...

Bah I'm just whining I guess... I just don't know how to help her, and I hate that feeling!

The best thing for her is to have a consistent, stable home, you are providing such a great thing for her. For rescues, 2 months in a new home is really not that long.

Keep up the good work! Very Happy

!

It can be very overwhelming. I am in the process of stepping up from volunteer to coordinator at Heartland and I am spending a good 15-20 hours a week working on paperwork, interviews, transports, etc. It's a lot of work ! I brokedown and got a crackberry just so I could get back to people sooner and not have them get so frsutrated with the time delay. I am sorry you are having such a hard time with Sabriel. I wish there was something I could do to help. You could drive down here with the pups in tow and hang out on my deck. Let the dogs run for a few hours, drink some wine, listen to some tunes. Always a good stress reliever! Smile

Thank you!! She went to her new home about a week and half ago, and I'm almost positive things are going to work out!! Very Happy

At the end of this week her 2 week 'trial' period is up, and my home will be open again for a new foster! We will be getting one of the two available boys! I'm pretty excited to live with a male weim - all of my experience currently is with females!
