Dog treats - Share recipes

Postby ihlenfea » Thu Mar 04, 2010 5:02 pm

Hey! So I posted my pictures of the girls and I making dog biscuits... a couple of people said they wanted to share the recipes, so I thought we could start a forum and post anything we have tried and liked :) I am always looking for new things to try, as I am sure others are too. I didnt know where to put it, but I thought this would probably be the best spot. Posted below are a couple that I have tried! I hope to see this topic grow with lots of recipes

Apple Cinnamon Treats
Ingredients:
1 c. Natural Applesauce(or chopped apple)
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tbl. Parsley
1 c. Cold water
1/2 c. Veg. Oil
5 c. Flour
1/2 c. Powdered milk
2 large Eggs

Directions: Preheat the oven 350 degrees.
Combine all of the ingredients -- add oil or water if dough needed. Roll out dough to desired thickness and cut into fun shapes using cookie cutters.
Bake 20 -25 minutes until browned.

Blueberry Banana Oats
(http://www.dogtreatkitchen.com/blueberry-dog-treat.html)

Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup blueberries
• 1 small banana
• 1/2 cup milk
• 2/3 cup rolled oats
• 1 1/4 cup rye flour

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400° F
2. Peel and slice the banana.
3. Place the banana, blueberries and milk in a blender.
4. Blend until smooth.
5. Pour into a medium bowl.
6. Add rolled oats and rye flour.
7. Stir until thoroughly combined.
8. Drop rounded balls onto a greased cookie sheet (I used a 1" cookie dropper).
9. Bake for 16 minutes. They will be crispy and browned on the outside.

Yield: Using a 1" cookie dropper, I was able to bake 20 cookies. You could easily increase the quantity by using a smaller dropper, or rolling into smaller balls.

Storage: Since these dog treats use fruit, they will not last as long as other treats. I would recommend one week in a dog treat jar, 2 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator and 2 months in the freezer.

Peanut Butter & Banana Biscuits

Ingredients:

1 Egg
1/3 Cup Peanut Butter
½ Cup Mashed Banana
1 Teaspoon Honey
½ Cup Wheat Germ
1 Cup Wheat flour
1 Egg white

Directions:

In medium bowl hand mix Egg, Peanut butter, Honey and Banana together till well incorporated. Then add dry ingredients mix well and turn onto well-floured counter and roll to desired thickness and cut desired shape. Brush tops with the egg white if desired; it will give a glossy look to the tops, which is nice if they are a gift.

Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees and cook for 20 then check for doneness. Cook for another 5-10 minutes if needed. If cookies are small then check after 15 minutes

It's not a treat for dog but for dog lovers. I make chocolate cupcakes, add green food coloring to the icing and the use a "small Peppermint patties and three junior mints to make a paw print on each cupcake. It looks like the dirt (chocolate cupcake), grass (green icing) paw print (patty and junior mints). I make then for the humans at some of my dog events.
