Okay I took a bunch today (even though it was still raining grrrrrrr).... not bright sunny pics but you can get an idea. The last one shows just his raindropped covered face...I couldnt resist throwing that one in...I just LOVE that face to death Very Happy By the way...we feed him Orijen all natural dog food..two cups in the morning two in the evening, if I give him extra stuff like rice or carrots or salad with his food, I cut the two cups down to one. Is it the snacks?? He usually gets the last bite of our popsicles, toast, eggs, etc...I suppose all of those little bites add up in a day with a family of four? Embarassed Confused

He is gorgeous!!!! Yeah, those little bites will add up - its doesn't take much. My guy gets 1.5 cups of California Natural twice a day, plus yogurt in the morning and green beans (or other veggies) in the evening. Try cutting him back to 1.5 cups and then limiting his bites of leftovers Smile My vet told me how many calories Yukie needed to eat every day, which is how I got to 1.5 cups.

I have to add this one...a similar one is in my profile picture, but his expression in this one is completely different. He just makes me laugh. We spend all our time together, I work from home. Everyone teased me for doing this to him (dressing him in this), but I am telling you his tail was wagging so hard I thought it would fall off. He loves doing stuff with me no matter how ridiculous he looks.....couldnt ask for a better buddy...now me and my buddy need to lose some weight Embarassed Mommy can afford to drop a few too since no longer working outside the home. He is very handsome. Maybe you both can start a walking regime?

I don't know if he really needs to lose 10 pounds, but you'll be able to tell once it starts dropping. Try adding canned green beans to his diet that extra fiber should help.

Banshee is a bit overweight as well and she gets quite a bit of exercise. I have cut back on her food (Canidae). 2 of my other dogs are slightly underweight--Kali, my senior, who I have to bribe to eat twice a day--and Scout, the baby, who is still growing. All the dogs, with the exception on my Senior, are VERY active. I have tried to cut Banshee's food to 1 or 1 1/2 cups twice a day, but it's hard because whatever the other dogs don't eat, Banshee is there ready to wipe their plates clean. (I call her "the Cleaner"!) I give them all yogurt in the morning and (now) green beans in the evening. Either they LOVE those green beans, or they are just STARVING!! Wink Hopefully, her weight will start dropping, but as yet, I have not noticed any difference in her weight--from either the reduced food or the increased exercise!! (I find that is MY problem as welll--so she just must take after ME!!) Rolling Eyes

Nope - just right out of the can. The cheapest I have found is 48 cents a can for Libby's Naturals No Salt Added French Cut green beans (at Walmart).

I was reading somewhere that it is better to use fresh or frozen green beans because of the higher nutritional content. Frozen are nice this time of the year, because they are like yummy ice cubes to them!

yup canned is fine...just remember the NO SALT added kind.

Grace gets green beans w/ every meal (half a can) and LOVES it...she will bark at me if I put her dish down w/o the beans...it helps fill her belly.

Well night number one went okay. I gave him a cup and a half of his food plus an entire can of beans (I bought the french style no salt). I heated them up (yes he is a spoiled baby) and mixed it in. He gobbled it all down in no time and was looking for more!! Shocked

Tomorrow we are starting a walking regime. We both need to drop a few pounds so we might as well get a start on it. Embarassed

Will the beans give him more gas than he already gets? Confused

He doesn't look like he needs to lose a lot of weight. When that dimple by his tail goes away, you should be about right.

He should not have gas from whatever food he is eating. Gas is not normal.

You might experience loose stools if you gave him a whole bunch of green beans at once.

Also, it doesn't matter if veggies are cooked or not. If giving them whole the dog is not getting that much nutrition from it anyway, probably more from cooked actually. Dogs cannot break down the cellulose in vegetables, which is why raw feeders grind the veggies into a pulp.

I would switch to adult food. I never feed puppy food.

I know that's true for people, but like Anne said, dogs cannot break down veggies. Kind of like people with corn Smile I bought a cheap 2 cup food processor to keep on my counter that I've started using for their veggies.

I give my guy a half can of green beans. And as for puppy food, I've never used it. Always had mine on adult food. I would make the switch if I were you.
