Cedar Chips

Our neighbor has a dog and has had rescues for ever...she lays out cedar chips as part of her flea and other bug control in her yard...also smells nice.

Does anyone know if Cedar chips would be toxic if a dog where to eat them?

I've looked into this also, because the effing things are Slade's favorite thing to chew on. Rolling Eyes

I haven't been able to find anything anywhere online to suggest they're toxic. And I know that some dog beds are stuffed with cedar to repel fleas, so I would imagine not. If they can put it IN a dog product, it must not be?

My next concern though, after toxicity, is impaction. Little booger likes to try and EAT everything; not just chew on it. *facepalm*

Cedar chips couldn't possibly be toxic, because Taren has ate his weight in those apparently yummy, yummy chips. It drives me nuts. I swear I can stand right next to him and he levitates them right into his mouth before you can stop him. I have spent an ungodly amount of time scooping the jowls out. Hubby asked a trainer about it , and you will love this, ready....... she said, "Tell him no". Tell him no...... Really???? How novel, I could not have possibly thought of this without your help. Rolling Eyes

Are you kidding me?????? I find that sublimely ridiculous. Ok, Taren knock it off. Laughing

Well glad to hear I'm not alone with a mulch-eating dog!!

Lincoln lowers his bottom jaw and proceeds to HOOVER as much mulch into his mouth as he can.

In the last couple of days he's started with the "catch me if you can!" thing around the yard. Fun, real fun. Especially when I'm home from work at lunch letting him out, running around the backyard in work clothes and heels...*sigh*.

I am not sure about outdoors, but seem to recall something about the respiratory effects of keeping an animal in a confined space on Cedar. I think it was more directed at the containment of guinea pigs and rabbits sort of thing. Might be worth looking into.....

I use the *leave it* command as well. Also, No Bark! No Rocks! That one second of distraction gets us every time as well. We have it tough at the moment, because to use the front garden we have to walk by our rock fountain, three larger rocks where the water cascades down into a pool of smaller rocks. He loves those rocks. Through the garage you have to go under a wrought iron arbor that is growing roses and has stepping stones surrounded by bark. The back yard is all dirt at the moment, waiting to be landscaped, and doG love his soul, but leave the freaking dirt alone! I know this will all be a fond memory given time and training, but I am hoping to avoid any issues resulting for his love of all things inedible. I do watch him intently, but I am only human, and the neighbors always want to talk *dog* and there he is snorffling up the bark.

I always feel funny when people suggest I should sell something. I am more of the mind, just take it, for free. Selling to me becomes a *job* and it somehow then sucks the joy out of it.
