| Jersey, at times, will bark after I leave and after she has finished the food in her kong. We live in Manhattan and unfortunately this is not acceptable to our neighbors. We don't know how long she barks and what triggers it, but it doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes. I am going to try to do peanut butter in one kong and food in the other so she has more to do..any other ideas? We tried a citronella collar when it started happening (then it stopped for 2-3 weeks) which didn't work at all...I know most people on the board think "A dog will be a dog/bark" but the truth is in my building is very into "noise control". Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! |

| Do you leave music playing or the TV on? Maybe that would help. |

We do leave the classical music station on. It seems totally random, however, when she barks and doesn't bark. She is also ignored when we get home for 10-15 minutes and when we leave i try to ignore her. I might not have tired her out enough this morning before work...might have to set the old alarm for earlier....! |

We have this problem with Calvin too on occasion. Luckily we live in a house, not an apartment, but we still don't want to be known as the neighbors with the barking dog!
I find that draping blankets over his crate settles him down much more than if we leave it undraped. He's entered the 'protective' stage and will bark at anything if he catches sight of it...I figure, the less he can see the better! |

Music or a talk radio station helps mine...as does draping something over the crate to make it more "den like"....
Hope you get it straightened out. I had townhouse awhile back, and the neighbors had a dog that barked non-stop whenver they went out. Didnt matter if it was day or night...it was horrible. |

| Has anyone ever tried the device which makes noise when your dog barks? (Collar or freestanding)? Any luck? |

| I have the Dog Silencer Pro, works on one dog but not on the other, and it works on the neighbor dog. I would get one that you can plug in though or you will go through a serious amount of batteries during training. |

Thank you! I will try this. She is so good most of the time, I don't think she has SA by any means. But I think I will try the everlasting ball/toy treat thing too... |

| You could also try to use the plug in called "Comfort Zone". It may help with the barking by trying to calm their anxiety. It worked for KD for awhile. We used it while she was crate training and it helped. You can get it cheaper thru "PetEdge.com" or thru an online service. Between that and the radio, KD calms down quicker after going in the crate. |

| What about a kong time? They can be set to spit out a kong every hour or every two hours. Not cheap, but it may work. We found ours on clearance. |

I would but she's in the crate so I worry she would destroy it and also that it would wake her up when she's sleeping/calm |

| I would try a citronella bark collar first. If that doesn't work, to keep the peace and keep anyone from causing problems for you, try an electronic bark collar. They are not cruel and it is much better than being harassed by the neighbors because she barks sometimes. |
