We will be boarding Storm for the first time in late September. She'll be 10 months by then and has not spent time away from us yet. Any advice? I was planning on dropping her off with her bedding from her crate, her sucky, and some toys. We're going to give them lots of treats and they have promised to treat her alot to try to make the experience positive. I have also arranged for them to play with her in their fenced in play area. I think this is going to be much harder on me the her. I have the choice between an Inside/Outside run and an Outside cabana. I've been leaning towards the cabana since it will have room for her crate and she'll be away from most of the doggy noise. Only problem is that she will be in an outside covered area. The inside/outside option may not be bad though since they aren't expected to be very full. Any suggestions on how to make this a positive as possible for her?

Could you possibly drop her off for the day before hand to let her stay and see how she reacts to it. You can always leave her with an old t-shirt that you have worn so she can have your smell. When we drop our two off we we usually get them the run where they can go inside and outside. I do have to tell you, storm probably will not rest a whole lot while you guys are gone. You know how nosy Weims can be and there is so much going on at a Kennel to see and smell. When we pick ours up they usually come home home and pass out cause like they say there is no place like home.

Hope this helps some.

Practice a lot and practice early. Get your dog from puppyhood used to being alone and used to other people. Don't wait until the last minute... especially for dogs that have never spent time away from home.
