Hi - I was hoping someone on here would be able to help me out with the situation I am having with my 4 1/2 month old weim puppy. Thanks so much! I am copying and pasting what I posted in my other message board. Please read below.
About 2 months ago she was squatting every couple of minutes and passing some blood in her urine. We took her to the vet and they put her on an antibiotic. (Clavamox) Long story short - this is our 4th round of antibiotics (she has been on them off and on for over a month)... and now is on Simplicef.
As soon as she finishes them, the UTI comes back within 3 days. The vet did 2 cultures and found Ecoli - tons of it. Now she just called and said the sensitivity test (the thing they do to see which antibiotic works) came back as her being on the right meds for the problem. The weird thing is that her PH level in the urine is fine though - so cranberry caps will not help this situation.
She seems to believe that my dog is "anatomically incorrect" and could have what is called "pelvic bladder." Did you ever hear of this? I just don't know who to ask about all of this and now we need to bring her into the vet on Thursday for X-rays and possibly to see a specialist for this.
Did anyone ever go through all this or hear of this before?
I look forward to hearing a lot of responses.
Thanks! |

Im not sure about in dogs but i know uti's in humans is because of ecoli. My daughter had reflux (where the urine would swirl up first) and had to be on antibiotics all the time-Propha something they called it (i always say it like a condom-but thats so wrong ) Its a tough thing and very frustrating. |

You might want to try posting to this group below, whose members include a lot of breeders. I know my girl's breeder (not a member there, though) had talked about a "pelvic bladder" being a problem that does occur occasionally in Weims, making it almost impossible for them to wait very long to pee. So perhaps longtime breeders know more about it. Just a thought.

How long has she been on the antibiotics? I have seen rescue dogs who have to be on them for about a month before they are cured.
She may also have a juvenile urinary tract. I have heard of some dogs outgrowing problems.
I would definitely seek out a specialist's opinion. |
