I never complained when Abby when through her "puppy" destructive phase. She tore up 2 hot tub lids and started eating the siding on my house. I paid big for her as a puppy and in repairs and I don't care. I never suggested getting rid of her b/c of her behavior. She doesn't do any of that anymore-she "grew out of it" I guess.
I only want her to get some attention in a loving home and I know she isn't getting any real attention at my house.
I have good intentions. And I know you all come in contact with people, like he referenced who want to "sell their dog b/c the wife wants the flower bed instead", but I am looking for the best for Abby, not me. I know I will get a lot of response to the opposite, but I have tossed this idea around for 6 months b/c I didn't want to do it.

She is beautiful. You shouldn't have a problem finding a good home for her.

In a few years when your older dog passes, and you find more free time, are you going to wish you had her back? Are you just going to get another dog? That doesn't seem fair at all.

It's a shame that you made it through all the puppy stuff and can't enjoy the more relaxed adult. I'm still waiting for that.

PS: Really tacky to post it on the Weim Garage Sale. This is not what that thread is for.

I am new to this site, if you read anything else you would have known that. When my older dog passes, I will not get another dog. I didn't intend to be "tacky" by posting her in the Garage Sale section. But really thank you for pointing that out. Super nice of you!!!

We plan on having a baby in the next few years and I couldn't imagine giving up our dog. In fact, we have been working with a trainer from Bark Busters on how to introduce a baby to the Weim as well as ways to circumvent the lack of attention we'll be able to dedicate to the dog.

I don't want to lecture, but it's incredibly irresponsible to cast the dog aside on account that you don't want to dedicate the time or effort. You should have thought about that before you got the puppy.

I really hope you find him a good home and don't adopt any future animals.

Have you tried contacting the breeder? From what I've heard, "reputable" breeders will ALWAYS take back one of their dogs. I know it probably seems far fetched, but it's worth a try, unless of course she was from a byb then you wouldn't want to return her there.

It does sound like you completely thought this through and you've made your decision. If you're going to continue trying to rehome her yourself, then just make sure you do your homework with possible adopters and don't be afraid to check references and ask lots of questions. IMO, it's sad that you cannot make time for her (really, once out of that puppy stage, they don't require THAT much attention), but at least you seem to be looking out for her best interest. There are just so many that want out for selfish reasons, even on here, and it's just not fair to the animals involved.

Best wishes for Abby!

Melissa,

I don't know if you are still reading but if you email me I can send you some documentation on how to place your own Weimaraner resposibly. Our rescues are often full and unable to take owner turn-ins so we often counsel people on how to keep their own dog until there is an apporpriate home.

this has obviously become a tough topic/thread - although i will agree that once you take on a dog, you are responsible for it for life - unless you are somehow physically unable to care for it (ie a disease or accident), it is yours to care for - like it or not, make it work - just one man's opinion.

that said, if she is set on finding it another home, the dog shouldnt be forced to stay where it is unwanted - it will figure that out, and be miserable - so hopefully some of the rescue folks on here can help her with the process, and where to properly post the need for a new home.

if zoe was anything other than 3.5 herself, our situation with lola and our need for another dog would be a great fit. however, we had dreaded losing two dogs at nearly the same age (z and l are 9 months apart) - and i couldnt have two dogs exactly the same age - just too much heartache at once down the road. however, im sure there is someone out there in a similiar situation to ours, and this pup could fit in with them quite well.

Weim Rescue of North Texas covers Oklahoma. Your girl is beautiful and a good age, so I don't think they'd have much trouble finding her a good home.

Here's the link to their website:

Hi,
This may seem whacky but, we've been considering a sister for Gunnar and if you'd be willing to put her on a plane to LaGuardia, we'll take her!
Is she neutered?
Any health issues?
Is she socialized?
What diet? We'd change her to the raw meat diet, BTW.
Please let me know?
I'm completely serious

G

I sincerely hope to hear from her. I don't want to pass judgement on her decission(hope I'm not struck by lightning!)
Life has many pitfalls and hopefully there's someone to help us get back up!
They're beautiful, loving companions and we have the capacity to help Melissa and Abby in our home, it's a win/win for everyone.
