3 year old Female needs a good home**Adopted in 2007

Postby Melissah » Mon Oct 22, 2007 11:14 am

My dog, Abby, has been spoiled. That was before the baby came. She is not getting any attention and needs a good home where she can play with either other dogs or with someone who can at least take her for a walk every night. I work full time and have a very small baby. I love my dog but she needs to be somewhere where she can get some attention. Our older Akita is too hold and tired to play with her during the day and in the evening, after she eats, she just lays in her chair sleeping.
Please email me if you want more information. I will be happy to email pictures or tell you all about her.

This thread gets brought up every so often and people respond to trying to rehome this dog. She was actually adopted by a WA member over 2 years ago!!!

I did. The closest Weim one here is in Arkansas. Which isn't bad, but they are full of dogs. I didn't like the family that was interested b/c they seemed like serial adopt - then - returners. Does that make sense?
I want a permanent good home for her.

That was before the baby came.

Is it an option to keep her? I have three kids, and run a daycare, just because the dog's life changes doesn't mean it's all that bad. As your baby gets older, you will find more time for Abby, and you'll both enjoy it more.
Coming from a mom who has dogs, I know how all consuming a new baby can be, and it will seem like you never will want to focus on anything else again, but that's no reason to alter your family, your canine companion can learn to adjust and you don't need to throw their whole life in an uproar just because you don't have the same amount of time you did previously.

Well, I have been tossing the idea around for months. It was a hard decision to make. She is so happy around other people. It is sad to watch her so bored at home and then perk up when someone plays with her. I know our life will slow down, but it is too much right now.

As overwhelming as life is, isn't it worth waiting for things to slow down so you don't have to lose her?

I understand the point you are trying to make. I really do. And I appreciate that you are trying to help b/c you have been there. As I said, this was a really hard decision to make. But I have so much on my plate with not a lot of help. My Akita is her buddy but he won't entertain her anymore and I really don't remember the last time I played with her. It is sad. I just want to find a home for her that she will get lots of attention and love and someone.

Well, at least you're being honest about it. No sense in cheating her out of a good life because of circumstance.

Reconsider the weim rescue. THEY will make sure she gets into a good home and while being fostered, she'll get the love and attention she's lacking now.

In case you're wondering, the reason a lot of us sound cold or hostile here is because most of us are on the other side...we're the ones rescuing weims in need of homes, searching for advice with problems that are caused by breeders in it for all the wrong reasons, and we treat our pets as family members. For most of us, getting rid of our pets is NOT an option.

I really hope she finds a new home.

Cold and harsh is a good description. I am new this site obviously and hate that I am "surrending" a pet who has been like a family member. I also really appreciate the fact that people posting have sounded like I am driving out to the country and letting her go. I would NEVER mistreat my dog. I just am realistic. I don't want her fostered b/c I want a good permanent home for her that she will get attention and love, like I did before. I realize you guys all get dogs from homes that are neglected or abused or people just don't realize Weims are high strung and can't deal with it. I appreciate that you all open your homes to dogs and volunteer your time.
On a lighter note, I have been contacted by someone who is interested and much more sympathic to my situation and pet.

I love when people call us cold and harsh. What was it the other guy called us...the one with the puppy, Sam, that he wanted to sell because his wife preferred her flower bed???? Oh yeah.....ruthless..that was it.

I spend most of my free time calling people about dogs, evaluating dogs, transporting dogs, fostering dogs......if I'm cold, harsh and ruthless, what does that make you???

I have a full time job, a family, a home and four dogs.

If you want to surrender a dog you claim is a family member, go right ahead. But don't get all offended because the people here can't see your point. The site is called "Weimaraner Addict"......

Sorry again, GG.

I truly hope that you find a wonderful home for her. She looks gorgeous and I would take her myself if I wasn't so far away from you.
