160 Nails to Clip......

Postby Wntrheart » Sun Jan 31, 2010 12:27 pm

Been busy this morning, 160 nailes to clip and the puppies got their first worming....it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be :D I also modified the whelping box so it now incorporates a kennel - we are on to some informal training!

Here is a pic of the whole gang - 3 weeks
Note runt boy on the left....first to have eyes open, most talkative, walking and now teeth are emerging...his siblings are catching up! This picture is "scratch-n-sniff" so give your screen a little scratch and you will instantly get a whiff of puppy breath

Aww...big pile 'o puppies! Too cute.

I'm not a breeder, however it makes sense to me that you should try and distinguish the puppies somehow - coloured collars, string, coloured beads, or painting their nails.

They're going really start developing quickly and changing and coming into their little personalities. By keeping them separated you'll be able to remember which one is the feisty one, which one is the lazy one etc...might help you make informed choices when chosing the right puppies for your prospective owners.

Just a thought!

Best of luck with the next 5 weeks! :-)

Oh I bet poor mama is pretty happy about now.
I wish I could have Runt Boy. I've never had a puppy!
What a blessing you have in your home.
Thank you for the lovely photos.

I was thinking to myself this morning that I may have to keep runt boy for myself....but I haven't told my husband yet - shhhh! He has such a personality, I can't get over it - he eagerly seeks people out when he is on the floor and then rubs on them with his head, is he a Weim or what?

I think that little Pooper (aka runt-boy) wants to come live with Ozzie. They are quite the handsome lot!

This is VERY good advice. As a breeder it's your job to be able to know each puppy well enough that you can match every puppy to the best possible home. Most of us use different colored yarn, although you can also put a dot of different colored nail polish on the different pups or whatever other creative idea you have. We use small "people" nail clippers to cut puppy nails and have had good luck with that.
